Saved Game Exchange

This is an idea I just got from reading @“kyleprocrastinations”#1524's Mega Man thread.

It was previously a rental copy, so there were a bunch of endgame saves already on it. After getting stuck on the first pirate attack, I opened up one of those other files and luxuriated in the world for huge amounts of time.

I was thinking, what if we had a space to post or send just whatever mid-game saves we had for whatever games other posters are playing? Nothing specific like, "does anyone have a save with this cheat unlocked?" The purpose would be to somewhat recreate the feeling of renting a rando copy of a game from the video store and not knowing what you might find in the battery RAM (or SRAM etc).

I feel like I trust the people here to care enough about their fellow posters or at least their own reputations to not post save files with characters named after slurs or some shit. Other than that I dunno what else to consider. Does this sound like something people might be into?

@“connrrr”#p146906 It sounds cool to me - it just might need to come with some instructions, though I guess this would mostly be for emulators, yeah?

Love this idea! If you “steam” your games, you can download your cloud saves here and I suppose reupload them to a dropbox folder or something: https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

If someone wants to start a Crusader Kings 2 or 3 campaign together where whenever the character dies, someone else has to take over their kingdom, that could be a super fun way to play that game!

@“exodus”#p146931 I think for most people it would be, but some save formats are portable enough to be uploaded to their oem media i.e. memory cards. Some modded consoles have ways to let you upload a save file to a game cart or card. The Analogue Pocket dumps the save RAM to the memories folder on its SD card every time you create a save state, also!

I am wondering what would be the smartest, easiest way to upload the saves and make them accessible? Would something like a view-only dropbox link make sense??

That's a really great idea!!!

So dropbox is a good means to make this happen?? Here are a paltry few saves I have on hand but I will scrounge for more.

This is what I had planned for an Animal Crossing gamecube save swap visitation system, but that’s about 2x more complicated

I back up all my saves nowadays, they’re always up for grabs haha
I even have a collection of Pokémon saves from my homies games who had me back up their living Pokédex’s and stuff

I uploaded my Pokémon Red save here:

and Pokémon Emerald and Ruby saves

I should back up all my PS1 and PS2 saves as it's pretty easy to do if you have a moded ps2.

also worth reminding people that Gamefaqs also has game saves archived on each page:
