@marurun I may or may not be working along those lines currently lol
@TracyDMcGrath Shoot on, I say!
City Connection and Happymeal (currently known for the Ise-shima Mystery Annai/Retro Mystery Club ADV series, and a long-time mobile dev since the galakei devs) are collaborating on the “Final Series”, a line of new games using classic Jaleco IP—as of right now, they’re locked in for three games, with the first being FINAL EXERION, coming to Switch next week and to Steam sometime soon thereafter:
I like that they’re stuffing it full of new and novel methods of unnatural, disorienting parallax.
The between-stage manga (which has been translated for the global version) is by Watari U, known specifically for Hades Project Zeorymer Ω and more generally for just drawing lots of fan art.
@gsk that parallax is wild holy crap
@coffeentacos to be fair: original style (arcade) and SG-1000 Exerion both had very specific and slightly unnerving parallax too! Kinda cool that this is getting made! I’m a low key fan of stationary STGs like this (yeah, I know, the parallax) and they don’t get as much love as more modern examples of the STG genre.
@gsk Dezaemon deserves so much more attention than it got, especially the Saturn version. It’d be cool if they released any of the fan/append discs!
@Karasu ahh ok! I never played those games so this is entirely new to me!
@TracyDMcGrath If this is even close to remotely true, I am so ready. If it isn’t, an audience of +5 is feverishly forming in anticipation should you decide to pick up the mantle.
Any shmups out there with branching paths based on doing specific tasks/performance like Star Fox 64 rather than literally selecting a route in Darius (which still rocks).
@HeavenlyHalberd Batrider has a bunch of bosses and a stage or two that only appear if you pick certain characters and keep them alive/do specific background object destruction.
@HeavenlyHalberd Border Down kinda has that.
@chazumaru I had never heard someone call G.Rev “grev” before, only ever “gee rev”
@coffeentacos Not a big deal but theirs is indeed the proper pronouncing of their name; it’s actually closer to « Greff’ » but the {v} sound is admittedly not friendly to Japanese phonemes.
@chazumaru yea, I looked up with the company‘s name actually was (グレフ)which is neat! I almost would’ve expected ブ or ヴ but I can see how they got there.
Definitely a case of reading the name more than actually hearing it haha.
Jesus, the opening of Download 2 hits like a train. I love shmups on pre-PlayStation disc-based systems so much.
@chazumaru Oh man, and it‘s a game on my beloved NOAMI? Can’t wait to play it. Thanks for the rec!
Ay, did not expect a Cotton Rock n’ Roll 2 announcement tonight or ever, but: yes
M2‘s got a DOJ Rinne Tensei stream scheduled for tonight, but there’s a bunch of STG-related news coming out of TGS that I’ll get out of the way first (including the Cotton RnR sequel announce mentioned above):
- new Radirgy 2 trailer:
- official announce for the Triggerheart Exelica Switch release, it’ll be out December 14 in Japan and at some point towards the end of the year elsewhere… there’s a new trailer in here somewhere, as well as gameplay:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEx27iHKP8E - Pixel Co. Ltd showed off their upcoming FC-style STG Xelan Force for the first time—this is a PC game they’re bashing together in a couple months to sell at a particular retro con, so don’t expect to have your mind blown:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcrTPq7ApQQ - Irem Collection 1 (Image Fight+Image Fight 2+X-Multiply) is getting a digital release on November 21 ($35-ish, based on the JP price); Japan’s also getting its own physical versions for Switch/PS5
- M2’s being hosted at Tatsujin’s TGS booth, and they have playable builds of Tatsuhin Ou (Truxton 2) and Out Zone on display—they haven’t yet explained why or how they intend to release them, but they may do so tonight (or over the weekend, most likely)
- orders for ININ/SLG’s Rainbow Cotton remaster go live in <9 hours—ICYMI, this is being produced by a European team and is promising a revised controls/mechanics option on top of a localisation, new post-processing effects, etc Rainbow Cotton – Strictly Limited Games
Last night‘s DOJ stream didn’t reveal much in the way of news, just an overview of the gadgets & challenge/training features (a lot of which are white label-only, it seems…) as well as retailer bonuses and whatnot. Wait for tomorrow’s Tatsujin x M2 talk show, I guess.
Telenet Shooting Collection hit the US Switch eShop last night: $45 for basic emulated versions of Gaiares, Granada MD, Psychic Storm and Avenger: Telenet Shooting Collection for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Official Site
@gsk a lot of which are white label-only, it seems…
huh. odd choice
