It may be big and heavy and gaudy but even the ‘box doesn’t deserve that.

### Happy Xboxing Day!!

I saw a guy in an Xbox toque this morning on my run. It looked like this.

(This could have gone in the goofy things thread if it weren't still so close to xboxmas.)

@“exodus”#p146018 breakdown

I still think this is one of the most insane things ever put into a videogame.

Grabbed this in the local used games store recently. Not sure it‘s what I’d call “good” but I've got an affinity for some of the FromSoft stuff on original Xbox.

@“Cian”#p150256 I should give this game a second chance.

gonna start saying murakumo was better than dark souls and armored core combined (the only fromsoft game I have played in a serious way is Shadow Tower)

I really like the covers on the Famitsu Xbox magazines. I've never liked the black and green branding for Xbox (but thought the white and green for 360 ruled) and the western magazines all featured it prominently. The Japanese one often had great art and I love the billion words approach to Japanese magazine cover design.

Apologies for including a bikini lady but the DOAX games secretly rule and I think had an outsized prominence in Xbox branding. A fairly large percentage of the Japanese magazine covers featured DOAX and it became top 5 or top 10 games you think about when you think about the Xbox.

@“Chopemon”#p150310 the DOAX games secretly rule

Are they basically just volleyball games? Or is it more like a party game / mini game compilation? I've never played them, but I'd be interested to know what's fun about them mechanics-wise.

@“rearnakedwindow”#p150382 yeah, they are primarily volleyball games but all of them have additional mini games like pool hopping or rock climbing. DOAX2 has a jet ski racing game that is really good. They also have a casino with card games.

The volleyball is pretty good. It definitely needs the extra stuff around it to carry it for a full game but it's good. For me, the best one was DOAX2 because of the jet ski racing.

They are also light friendship sims. When you start a game you pick a character and one of the others becomes your partner. I think you might be able to switch partners. As you play the games you earn money to buy swimsuits and gifts. Each character has their own likes and dislikes and you need to learn them so that you can get the gifts they like. Gifts make their stats go up and they perform better in volleyball.

The first one feels closer to being wholesome than the others. Yes, you're collecting swimsuits for booby computer ladies but it errs slightly more on the 'lets be friends having a good time on vacation!' side. DOAX3 is an erotica DLC showroom. I still like it for the chill hang out vibe but They Know What The DOA Fan Base Want.

Somebody find a better image of this event….for Blinx.

@“hellomrkearns”#p150440 Do you have a source for this image? I feel like this must be from a magazine or old website, probably could be found on the internet archive.

@“beets”#p150827 old website! Sorry, I should have included that to begin with
