Show Me Your Insides

I do love how this seems to be the general term in Japan for clear plastic.

WHY BEANS

Okay I think discourse is getting a little preachy. This is what it said when I tried to post “why beans” by itself

i ran into this earlier and added

Also yes I have my own workaround for Discourse’s prescriptive gatekeeping but would be nice if no one had to come up against it in the first place.

I had a look around. I have the non-transparent versions of quite a few things that have been posted above, but not a lot of transparent stuff. Here’s what I found:

Adaptors for Analogue consoles. The top two are the Game Gear and NGPC adaptors for the Pocket, the lower one is for playing Master System on the Mega SG.

Contollers! These are both so dark that it’s hard to tell you can sort of see through them.

This is the back of the 360 one, which is a bit more revealing. I got this wired 3rd party controller because my official ones kept losing connection, particularly when the rumble would activate, and I thought it was the battery contact getting disrupted. I’ve barely used the 360 since getting it but it seems to work reliably.

Last and probably least, when my old computer was on its last legs I replaced it with a mini PC that doesn’t have space for a disc drive, so I got this USB one (I also kept the old internal one and can connect it with a hard drive externaliser because I assume this one will die fairly quickly). I chose this one out of the various more or less identical USB disc drives I found online because of the window.

i’ll admit i haven’t actually read any text in the thread, i just scanned and scrolled thru and looked at all the pictures you all posted and i’m loving it, which, like, i can make a case that my reading method here is thematic cuz i don’t know what the insides of any circuitry does but i love when someone makes a case that i can see through. or something

i even just a few days ago made a post on bluesky with this wikipedia link and me saying “bring it back”

Deleted my clear DS post because that unit turned out to be faulty and I had to send it back. But I just took that as a sign from the universe to stick with my original plan of enjoying being content with my Deck, Vita, and SP. (Also, despite its seemingly great library, I just didn’t like holding that DS and don’t think I’m ready for that double screen life just yet anyway.)

So it doesn’t feel right to leave up a pic of a unit I no longer own nor have any emotional attachment to. However, I am replacing it with a pic of my most beloved gaming system, which luckily is also apt for this thread.

My lovely launch day LE OLED Deck. Things a beauty and a beast. Love it dearly.

I’m not much of a fan of making newer stuff look retro by making it clear, unless it makes sense to me (like with controllers)
but I love my era-accurate stuff. I’ve got it all. aside from the imac that kind of started it all. pretty much all of the OEM stuff posted here, I’ve got!
sometimes I see kazzycom photos and think, I have more/better items than that, but much worse photography!
my main thing is actually using them, in public, at work, on the bus, at the beach etc.

one thing I don’t have is a clear Xbox Series controller. I have a clear original xbox controller though.

I think the clear SNES and NES shells are ugly! A smoke shell like the ones made recently for mega drive would look better.
