@“MoH”#p159391 but that scene

Don't get me wrong, it's actually multiple scenes, and I'll still agree it's stupid as hell lol

What‘s frustrating is that this is a new mode for the writing, I know what the show is like when it isn’t a bad comedy or a bad soap. This is two whole seasons compared to two recent episodes. Let‘s see more from Cutty, who’s got something interesting going on! Moments in seasons 1 and 2 were in poor taste but they were pretty few and far between. I wondered if ratings for S2 had been poor and if the writers hadn‘t had to make some kind of concession to an exec demanding more “sex,” more “jokes,” more “sex jokes,” but apparently ratings were high for S2 and plummeted immediately when S3 premiered. I’m watching more tonight, I assume they'll get back to the Good Stuff

@“Gaagaagiins”#p159349 I can’t wait to find out who’s gonna be the Juggalo

```Peter Bogdanovich voice``` why do you think it could be Peter Bogdanovich?
well well well what an appropriate episode to see tonight
My partner and I have been catching up on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters before Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire comes out, because I can totally get suckered into a cinematic universe if it revolves around Godzilla. I remember Brandon saying on the podcast that Godzilla vs. Kong was “un-haveanopinonaboutable” which I disagreed with (Adam Wingard managed to anthropomorphize Godzilla and Kong in a very particular way that I found really funny and endearing) however I do think I would have agreed if he'd said it about this. The Legendary MonsterVerse is an unwieldy Frankenstein of a shared universe that almost exists on accident (Kong: Skull Island started out as a completely separate work!) and this show essentially serves to make all this lore set up by four different filmmakers feel more like it can exist in the same world, which is complete nerd horseshit.
And it's the WHOLE point - it's not even really a vehicle for more giant monster action because there's quite little of that - we're on the second to last episode and I don't think Godzilla has had as much screentime as he did in Godzilla 2014, the movie where he had the least (which I think is totally fine for that story). I actually find all the human drama and performances in this probably more compelling than anything in the actual films in the MonsterVerse but if there is some kind of central idea or viewpoint being communicated by the story those performances are telling, I'm not exactly sure what it is. Having Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell play the same character across two timelines is a really cool idea and it's sort of funny seeing it used here of all places.
Also find it supremely funny that the character Bill Randa goes from looking like this handsome motherfucker to looking like John Goodman in the span of 11 years. What happened, buddy? Vietnam was a rough time for everyone
@“yeso”#p159318 I think in basic terms - and maybe I’m being too simplistic and/or Catholic - The Sopranos is a comedy, not a tragedy.
Sometimes it certainly knew how funny it could be:
>!
Tony's hysterical laughter to this looks so genuine it almost makes me think they didn't let Gandolfini see him like this until he walks into the scene. I saw the joke coming and it still got me too! It's beautiful sometimes when comedy is found in the very expected rather than the unexpected.
@“Gaagaagiins”#p159513 they didn’t let Gandolfini see him like this until he walks into the scene
I think I read somewhere that’s exactly how they did it
@“yeso”#p159515 I think I read somewhere that’s exactly how they did it
Speaking of which, I said earlier I often forget he was acting when watching him as Tony Soprano, but the moments I most often see Gandolfini instead of Tony is when he cracks that big crooked galut smile of his. Seems like he was a real interesting man, it's a shame he passed away so young.
Fantastic cultural record: Meadow's schoolchums insulting the bastard ||cheater|| ||Jackie Jr.|| by calling him a “drip.”
@“Gaagaagiins”#p159517 absolutely—you mentioned this earlier but the impact his acting has on the show can’t be overstated
the talking sopranos podcast is also a pretty good time, as is “the sopranos sessions” book
the many saints of newark prequel movie is a comparatively less good time but i respect it more the further i am removed
@“MoH”#p159521 the many saints of newark prequel movie is a comparatively less good time but i respect it more the further i am removed
I heard about this, but, even as someone who really likes _El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie,_ I just can't see myself being interested in it, at least surely not right after watching the series.
I mean, I am not gonna play dumb as to why something like this would get made, but, man, isn't the art here in _not_ being able to (or, perhaps, not needing to) see The Origins Of Tony Soprano in 4K?
@“Gaagaagiins”#p159525 yeah. also, it’s anywhere from 10-100x stupider than you’re probably imagining. that show was really lightning in a bottle.
Me (here we go...)
god that episode sucks so much lmao
Pretty bold of them to have this scene also depict cultural appropriation of indigenous culture (Bingo)
@MoH god that episode sucks so much lmao
Lmao, well, it wasn't much worse than what I heard growing up! Or, even, what still gets said now.
@Gaagaagiins its worst sin is being so hamfisted!
@MoH its worst sin is being so hamfisted!
Yeah I'll agree with that. We've been talking a lot about how it feels like the authorial presence is nigh undetectable in this show, but boy, I felt the Authour's hamscented breath tickling my neck hairs for that one
