I saw this while watching old Lupin the 3rd TV specials on pluto.tv which I’ve been watching all week instead of anything remotely new.

I care! Is this a first watch or repeat viewing?

I’m watching Slow Horses on Apple again before the new season in September. Please watch this show. Even if you don’t like the espionage genre this is a true blue crowd pleaser of a prestige TV drama.

First watch! I’m nearly done with the first season and loving it, even if a lot of it is kinda washing over me like an adult cocomelon right now. I’m just blank-faced taking in the images and the sounds

my understanding of the plot:

I think you’re enjoying it exactly the right way, which is however you enjoy it. One thing I love about Twin Peaks is everyone gets something different out of it when they watch it.

That video sums it up quite nicely too =)

Watching some Brazilian TV tonight, and as ever, I have gone with sci-fi.

Rolling Stone - 100 Best TV Episodes of All Time

It feels like there have been an absurd number of “we wrote this list to make you mad” lists in the past year e.g. NYT best books of the 21st Century; ESPN greatest athletes of the 21st Century, but this one is so insanely egregious. I know I shouldn’t take the bait but like… I think for every single TV show on the list I’ve watched I’m shaking my head saying “that’s not even the best episode of [Enlightened/Spongebob/Veep/30 Rock/The Office/Succession/The Sopranos/Game of Thrones/Black Mirror/Fleabag/Insecure/etc etc]!!!”

Only one non-American show in the top 50 and it’s Fleabag… Where the hell is Peep Show?? “Don’t Forget the Sea” from I May Destroy You is a better episode of television than “Ozymandias”

worst top ten list i’ve ever seen with the small exception of the shield

Lol the concept of this list doesn’t even make sense. How is it the best episodes of TV and shows only get on here once? There should be 50 episodes of The Sopranos before half of the shows in the top 50 even get consideration

definitely a troll list.

I feel like it’s probably something they thought was a fun exercise and encouraged by digital journalism being all SEO stuff like this.

Alan Sepinwall is the real deal in terms of TV critics, and so some of this has gotta be that this is what you have to do, in order to write real stuff. Sad as it is

I’ll take that bait–never mind not even the best episode, how dare they put in a SEASON 8 episode of Curb??

Best single episode removed from all wider context of the season’s larger arc is probably Season 1, Episode 5. Curb peaked in Season 4 though it’s more of a plateau for a season or so more, with only a sharp decline after the season with the long hiatus before it

Also I been on that True Detective.

I watched 6/8 episodes of Season 1 in a single night shift when nothing else was going on, then finished the season at home about 12 hours later. Absolutely phenomenal, easily among the best self contained ~8 hours of television of all time. McConaughey was electric. Harrelson was great too but really more as a foil for McConaughey (had no idea that guy could ACT like that, my perception of him is just romantic comed leading man). Narrative structure was genius, and ooh, those moments of almost stream of consciousness monologue. Really just something else, I don’t think I’ve seen anything else like it.

Season 2 was a pretty sharp decline in quality lol. It wasn’t terrible, I mean, I watched it all. But it was kinda like someone (possibly Woody Harrelson or Matthew McConaughey) thought, hey, Matthew McConaughey’s character was so great in season 1, what if there was like 4 of that guy? And it doesn’t really work cause there isn’t even one Woody Harrelson. But even though he was mostly chewing scenery I kinda liked Vince Vaughn as Mr. Back To Tha Old Me gangster.

Started Season 3 with Mrs. Gaagaagiins and the spike back up in quality is palpable!

I mean the earlier seasons are certainly best but Palestinian Chicken goes toe to toe with any episode of the show

true detective season one was a high i’ve been chasing ever since. i agree nothing else is like it, though i was disappointed by the ending. i think it had the problem of building up to something that was impossible to fulfill.

funny enough, i have fonder memoires of season 2 than i do season 3, though i agree season 3 is undeniably “better.” i think i just really love colin farrell.

re: curb–tbh i never thought the palestinian chicken was that funny. my personal fav ep is where larry thinks he’s a goy.

I think I mostly use that, and the little kid sewing swastikas as frankly better episodes even in season 8. Maybe this is my simpsons analysis but my point where I would mark the decline is in season 9 and it is steep.

Anyway my list would probably be gun to my head the one where he gets a hooker for the carpool lane.
