@Gaagaagiins rewatching the shield. in episode 2 when dani yells at julien for not showing up to the hospital after terry was shot and julien says “i’ve only been on the job 3 weeks and didn’t know the guy”……so me
Me every time The Shield asks me to give a fuck about dead cops fr
Still have the final episode left but I want to shout out Arcane S2 for delivering a new scene into the nerdy lesbian rewatch canon
Godspeed to the new batch of fan fiction writers Arcane has spawned
(I love this show very much)
It’s so good! I just finished the whole thing the other night. I can already tell it’s going to be in the rotation of funny shows to throw on in my house.
it always goes the “next step” in making a joke truly funny. for example, that episode where the security guard comes up with the idea for the eyeglass commercial with the stupid dance then it cuts back to the bar and all the old guys are trying to mimic it…so good
also as a native detroiter i gotta say they do a very good job of capturing that stuff. i used to go to temple bar all the time!
using my last post i’m allowed to make in this thread to ask @Gaagaagiins if they have any strong opinions on forest whitaker’s performance in the shield
I just got off the night shift so my strong opinion will also be expressed in a brief way–I blew through season 5 and am disappointed his character seems to have receded into the background! More like… Forest Winnaker
Also they got rid of the 3 post limit
which I will demonstrate
Now!!!
Anyway Arcane is absolutely begging for a Lana Del Rey Jinx X Ekko edit and I am too lazy to make an AMV at this moment
Those two episodes when Picard is a borg for the second episode when Riker’s in charge they should have had him do the “space….the final frontier” part. I realize this note is 30 years too late and delivered on a niche video game forum though
if Secret Level gets a second season they should make a Milo episode
@Gaagaagiins im a big enough person to admit the shield falls off super hard post season 5 in such a way that kinda makes me feel like mr burns here:
still a great show though, even if it’s accidental
have you ever seen an excited person irl do the homer “leg spin on ground” move as we see in the above clip?
- yes
- no
- hell, i do it myself
The way I’ve been thinking of it in my head was that, present company either included or excluded depending on how funny it would be to do either, anyone who says The Shield is a better show than The Wire is a fool, which is harsh words, considering how entertaining the former can be. I imagine we would probably agree it’s a bit of a cheeseburger and steak comparison but also with the eternal sine wave graph of ever onward oscillations between sincere appreciation and critical reaction. Like, yeah, liking cheeseburgers is fine because cheeseburgers are delicious, but also steak is strictly a finer food whatever that means, but sometimes you just want a cheeseburger, but sometimes it’s ridiculous to pretend like steak isn’t a better food, but sometimes it’s ridiculous to pretend like a simple yet indulgently well made cheeseburger isn’t delicious, and I think The Shield is probably at that point. It’s ridiculous to pretend like a TV show made up of kinda trashy parts can’t come together into an entertaining whole.
But I also think you’re also exactly right about it being an angrier and sometimes more brutally honest show, somewhat in the absurd candor of it all, but I think in that absurdity it reveals something that is a little more Capital T True about the infamous country known as America. Something about a Season 7 episode sub-subplot that I just watched last night, about a homeless man named Miracle Joe, who apparently was infamous on the streets for surviving all sorts of catastrophes and dangers, but who died of natural causes, and who had just gone out on the streets after suffering a psychotic breakdown after his brother died. It was a bit of a schmaltzy contrived story, but, really, it wasn’t all that unrealistic. There’s a variation of that guy in a tent city in most major cities all across the continent.
Just the other day Mrs. Gaagaagiins was watching some Youtube video essay that used The Shield as a case study for copaganda, I didn’t watch because I didn’t want to get spoilers so unfortunately this anecdote ends here.
