The 2025 Video Game News Thread (I was forced by anti-innovation communists to change the title again)

So tomorrow it is then. A huge shock for everyone but at least it’s coming! I’m hoping it’ll be released at the same time, then have to wait a few days before I can play it!

Fully committing to the ridiculous plot and starting the absurd story in medias res is about the only thing I respect about Doom Eternal.

I’d much rather absurd Doom fan fiction, than Doom where “combat puzzle” is a term used unironically.

Yeah I kind of see the Doom reboot series as like, Peter Jackson’s King Kong. They’re both adapting something that’s already the most economical and pure realization of itself that could possibly exist, so they’re just making a bloated homage stuffed to the brim with fanfiction

(Highly recommend the director’s commentary for Peter Jackson’s King Kong if you like listening to a big dork over-explain all the worldbuilding stuff he wasn’t allowed to exposition-firehose all over the cut that went to theaters)

Does that make Doom3 the equivalent of the ‘76 King Kong?

Bethesda, I am torn. It looks incredible and I am truly excited for this, it’s been a while since I really got excited for a new (old) game. Then you showed me the price.

You can have my urine, as clearly you are taking the piss, but not my money sadly. That’ll be a gamepass game all the way or in a few years when it’s on a super sale.

I understand it’s a remaster and not a remake, maybe a remake may have justified the price, but 54.99 euros is just too much.

I kinda want it as well. I’m hoping the desire fades after the excitement dies down.

Price seems mostly reasonable to me. I don’t agree that old games that are rebuilt so thoroughly should be dirt cheap just because the original came out XX years ago. Though, I’d like that a lot! A good example for me is Metroid Prime Remastered. If people didn’t know it was a remake of a Gamecube game, it would be treated just like any other 2nd party Nintendo release. $50 CAD instead of $66.99 would have me onboard faster but I wait for sales on most games anyway so that’ll come sometime.

Looks like they redid all of the assets and rebuilt most of the key systems? The line between remake/remaster gets blurrier with each release. On the other hand, I don’t think Bethesda games are very good at each mechanical level, but greater than the sum of their parts.

Don’t want to tell anyone what to do. But just wanted to mention that Microsoft (therefore Bethesda) is currently a boycott target of the BDS movement.

Morrowind would have been so much easier to remaster. It’s already de-saturated and brown!

My hope is that each dish calls for furiously dicing everything in front of you into a fine paste.

Can’t wait to feast like castaways on a deserted island do

Each recipe includes a list of modern-day ingredients and advice, so that an adventurous food connoisseur can easily prepare these dishes at home.

Unfortunately it sounds like there are no recipes from Adol’s dreamworld
