The early days of iOS & Android games

this looks really fun! No longer on the Google Play store, so I had to find a apk.

NOBY NOBY BOY FOREVER!!!
Noby Noby Boy on iOS is better than anything takahashi did since. Love its attempts at utility.

Update: more of the Llamasoft Minotaur Project games have been preserved.

We have:

  • Caverns of Minos
  • Deflex
  • Goat Up
  • Gridrunner
  • Mino Rescue
  • Minotron 2112

We’re missing:

  • Five-A-Day
  • Goat Up 2
  • Super Ox Wars

Android versions of a handful of games are available on the official website, but imho the touch control is more laggy on Android.

The iOS games are best played on an old iPod touch (5th generation or earlier) or iPad mini 1, because they can’t be upgraded to an incompatible state and thus won’t need to be downgraded. None of the games were designed with retina screen in mind so they don’t benefit from that. I bought one of each for £16 (iPad mini) and £18 (iPod touch 5th) delivered. Ideal

We’ve also found a couple of little-known Windows builds: Minotron 2112 & Mino Rescue, these run great in Wine on Mac/Linux.

Potentially relevant info for this thread, a bunch of classic iOS games have been resurrected and made available again on the App Store working with current model devices. Game Club is primarily a subscription service that makes all the games available on sub, but as a side benefit (or main benefit, to me) every game they’ve brought back, they fully unlock for anyone who has purchased the game back in the day.

I’ve gone through the list and downloaded everything I ever bought back in the day, and they all restored my purchase.

It’s a massive list, but some standouts for me are:

  • Gravity Hook
  • Frozen Synapse
  • Mage Gauntlet
  • Minigore
  • Super Crate Box
  • Spider HD
  • The Blocks Cometh
  • Pix 'n Love Rush

There’s heaps more I never played back in the day, but it’s well worth a look to find games you bought and liked back in the day and redeeming them here for play on current devices.
