find myself agreeing here
Yeah with each game I’ve taken careful note of how much they streamline the experience at the expense of commitment to the theme. It’s like if a movie told its story with just action scenes; the rest is important for pacing the story and elevating those moments. I like wandering the environment a little!
Something I found really nice in terms of pacing from the PSP games was going and tending the farm between hunts. Gave you a chance to breath and chill while also still progressing you in the game.
I think they’re looking long term with these changes because the chores start as a fun maintenance thing then turn into actual chores eventually. Especially if you’re hunting with buds and want to dip out to pick bugs out of your crops. That said, I like having SOMETHING. At least give me a poogie to pet
Oh… Oh no…
Lol even as a newbie I’m always considering skipping the cutscenes. I only don’t because it feels rude (silly) and because I like when the monster inevitably shows up so i can go oooooh scary
I think they’re suggesting that the story and Big Graphics pull in new players, but I always get the feeling that the World/Wilds team like to huff their own farts while the Rise team are more interested in making Just a Game. It’s neat how they team will pick and choose aspects from the most recent entry to use.
Also this game follows up World so no surprise it sold well.
I agree, I loved Wilds and will hop in the IC guild but I got GU for switch since it’s $10 and it is nice to just vibe (plus have tons of monsters while we wait for updates). Also, multiplayer is awesome in that game. Had two people in a lobby before I found the armorer…
In Wilds my group did like 5 hunts in 40 minutes or less and I was so burnt out after that. I think a middle ground may be leaning into the camp.
After playing gu I understand why the towns are loved, I think perfected in world (detail wise). It would be cool to be incentivizes to take time building our camp up to something that rivaled what world had going on. I don’t know how to incentivizes this in a monster hunter game. Mini games/modes? Apparently you could fight monsters you captured in MH2 so I heard.
Stardew valley but the mines are just monster hunter fights I guess? Lol
I bought a copy of Rise for a friend like three years ago and they’ve finally decided to play it with me. I’m going to start a new file and want to use a weapon I’ve never touched - I have lots of experience with DB and Lance. Help me decide?
- Long Sword
- Sword and Shield
- Greatsword
- Switch Axe
- Charge Blade
- Gun Lance
- Hammer
- Hunting Horn
- Insect Glaive
- Bow
- LBG
- HBG
I finished low rank in Wilds. Im enjoying myself but i feel like the game is always moving just a little too fast except for when you’re forced to walk somewhere.
Its like hunt 2 monsters and walk to next area. Hunt 2 monsters, walk, etc.
Id like to just slow down a bit and enjoy the atmosphere and learn the maps.
I think HR investigations are going to be a game changer.
starting High Rank finally. does anyone know what are the skills I should be prioritizing playing bow or lance? I’d like to maybe experiment by myself rather than doing what I always do and just looking up other people’s finely-attuned sets lmao.
For Lance, in terms of weapon skills I would say to not underestimate Guard and Guard Up (two different skills). Guard makes your guarding more effective and easier, while Guard Up makes you able to guard certain super strong attacks that would otherwise break your guard. If being able to guard pretty much everything other than Jin Dahaad’s arena filling 1HK0 AoE sounds fun to you than experiment with Guard Up.
For generalized damage skills Weakness Exploit is generally considered quite strong, especially if you can’t figure out a way to get too many bonuses to Attack or Critical Eye. It demands more precise play but success always does.
I would also not scoff at things like Recovery Up or Stun/Blight Resistances. Especially as a Lance user you can’t undersell being able to be in almost full control of when you’re taking damage. Recovery Up means you can get back up to full life with just one Mega Potion which means you can get your shield back out and get back in the fight faster. Stamina management skills like Marathon Runner or Constitution (can never remember which one is which) can help with blocking and/or pulling back on the bow too.
I’ve also been a big fan of Evade Extender for a long time. It means you can use the dodge roll like a fast gap closer without sheathing your weapon.
