you have to be psychotic to put a sticker there. Like it’s actually physically difficult to do, and the results can screw up your customers hardware / purchase? what the heck
It is truly evil, and worst is that they’re generally really hard to remove without damaging the disc. I don’t know exactly why they would do this, other than a cynical way to make the possible resell value worse for the buyer (and harder selling to competitors)… which would be next level destructive.
I’ve been able to remove them with either goo-gone or IPA with no problems.
True story: 20 years ago I was replacing a failed thermal solution (integrated CPU heat sink+fan assembly) for my brother. I pulled off the old one and needed to clean off the lid on top of the CPU. I shouted around the corner and asked “Hey, can you bring me some IPA?” He literally came back with a beer. So I started drinking that and then asked him for some isopropyl alcohol so I could finish the project.
