The world is a pretty funky place right now, wherever you are. Thereās a place to talk about those events which happen almost daily, and this is not the place for that. Iām talking about those lovely little surprises which seem small, but help to put a smile on your face when other things may not.
Today we went out to the shopping mall, as Iāve discovered children have this annoying habit of growing and needing new clothes, and decide to stop for lunch before the shopping was to commence. Walked around a bit and noticed a Lebanese restaurant, and thought well why not, it is mall Lebanese food but I want shawarma. Letās take a chance⦠Turns out it was pretty damn good actually! I got my fix of tabbouleh, hummus and flatbread, and I walked away with a nicely full stomach and a smile on my face. Iāve had better, but Iāve also had worse, so thatās a win in my book!
So what little things, no matter how small they may seem, have put a smile on your face? It can be shawarma, but not limited to of course. Looking forward to hearing what makes people smile.
Iām in a discord server with similarly themed channel thatās just called āduck pondā because someone regularly would post lovely pictures of ducks at a pond
Fun fact - as the text for a smiley face is actually longer than five characters it does recognise it as a valid title for a topic. Iām half tempted to just keep it as that - and still open to discussion. I think a smile really is as simple as it needs to be!
My partner and I had a fun night out last night ā we got dressed up and went to a concert weād been looking forward to for months. We danced our butts off and then went for a nightcap at a wine bar near us ā it was one of those evenings where everything just kinda flows smoothly: finding parking, getting a table without reservation, places arenāt overly crowded. It was really nice
Now weāre slightly hungover and heading out to remedy with Mexican food
The other day i saw a baby squirrel while walking in my neighborhood. It was standing on its own but was clearly just learning how because it wasnāt moving and had these squinty little eyes. We crossed the street to give it space. We then watched its mom come down from a tree, nuzzle it a bit, then pick it up by the scruff of its neck and scurry back up the tree. It was incredibly cute.
yesterday i went to the season opener for the bay area roller derby league because my friend is on the sf team - turns out my friend was sick and wasnāt there, but i had a fun time watching it anyway! after i got home i went to a friend of a friendās concert in my neighborhood and got to talk to another trans person i met like a year and a half ago who is very cool.
and then today at work we had a bunch of baked goods left over so i got to take home a very delicious cookie
my older son and i went for a little hike around hoyt arboretum and thereabouts. it was raining lightly the whole time, lightly enough that it was very pleasant. itās always fun with the two of us, because weāre both skilled at talking nonsense. we iterated on something he said by accident, eventually somehow ending up with a play on the harry potter title: brad beefly and the odor of the penis. dying of laughter.
then we got popeyes, and iām just finishing a pickle lemonade, which was pretty good, recommend.
i started a new job last week and iām still pretty happy about it. itās also cold here now which is nice because itās not so hot anymore, but itās a bit too cold which will hopefully improve in the coming week
Without doxxing myself with the details⦠I ended up at a mini video game expo in my town yesterday. Local developers (and a few not-so-local) showing off things they are working on. Spent two hours there with my kids despite only 15 games being presented. It was great!
