Another great video from PandaMonium about the crazy idea of making a US football game in Full Motion Video and, as always with this series, a strenuous care to find and interview people involved in the development whenever possible. Featuring @yeso ’s godfather Mike Ditka Who Could Not Be Reached For Comment (that’s his full name).
Phenomenal stuff about the periodic table and human nature, explained so that anyone could understand. One of the best video essays of the last few years.
Neat little introspection piece about getting lost. As someone who also has always had a difficult time maintaining a sense of direction but never thought too much about it, this video got me thinking about some pretty interesting questions
I’d imagine most folk know Philosophy Tube, but this latest video from Abigail is an extremely effective analysis of British institutional failure, bureaucracy and internalized bigotry. The philosophy of complaint management was particularly evocative (and grim - the amount of times I’ve heard “objection handling” professionally is nauseating). Worth a watch!
Finally watched this. If you can believe it, Castlevania 64 was the first Castlevania I played and I played the shit out of it. I loved it. Didn't even know until I was an adult that other people thought it was bad.
It made me feel validated, even though this person is gobsmackingly wrong about Ocarina of Time.
@“veck”#p92757 I haven't watched her stuff in a while but a few chapters in and I can already tell this is gonna be fantastic throughout… personally, knowing more about the Canadian institutions that I still imagine are pretty much like this, the Yossarian nametag on her period RAF uniform is a huge mood
I actually was listening to that guy‘s book a few months ago. I didn’t know anything about him at all and I was just kinda bored and wanted to hear some weirdo talk about Atlantis or something, and I thought it was funny that he narrated his own book. It ended up not being that fun though because his style is super annoying – such as bringing up obvious coincidences and then saying sarcastically “SURELY this is just a coincidence” – and it became clear pretty quick that he was just lying to me! I was like, dude, stop lying to me man!
I returned the book after a chapter or two, but now I've been seeing the guy all over the place!
Real ancient history is a lot more interesting, tbh!
@“wickedcestus”#p93429 Dang right it is! Yeah that‘s his whole brand. He’s basically the most successful guy making facebook memes that are three pictures of vaguely triangular things and saying “YOU THINK THATS A COINCIDENCE HUH” and like…one of them is the fake pyramid in Las Vegas.
Like…………. yeah one of the most objectively structurally sound geometric shapes being present in the designs of a lot of manmade structures, especially before modern industrial building techniques, means it is a coincidence
@“Gaagaagiins”#p93486 it's almost like… if you wanna build a tall structure… you might start with big blocks then get smaller blocks as you go up. like… because of…gravity
There is definitely the possibility of being a weirdo guy and disagreeing with everyone and also doing actual archaeology, instead of just making stuff up and basing your authority on essentially being a well-travelled tourist. Like, when I listen to Great Lectures series, the professors always have their own pet theories about ancient history, but they present them modestly, providing what evidence they have and then being like, “Yeah, hard to know for sure, but it's something to think about.” This guy would honestly be at least tolerable if he had any amount of humility instead of making his books an emotional appeal to an us vs. them conflict, and refusing to acknowledge potential pitfalls in his theories. (90% of his lies are lies of omission.)
