What is the most ominous sounding console startup noise?

@“HeavenlyHalberd”#p114338 ’m about to go to bed and I picked a bad time to listen to this.

Pretend it’s the lead-in chimes to Mishima/Opening and it feels much nicer!

I’ve never heard a video game console that needed a pop filter before

this is actually super rhythmic for how short it is and I can’t get enough of it

@“connrrr”#p123032 Pippin is one of those obscure console I am fascinated to see someone do a deep dive on.

I don’t know if this is the most ominous but it is unsettling to me for some reason.

@“exodus”#p123130 it's got to be the stock sound effects and the choppy framerate right? or the fact that they thought kids were going to love seeing this every time they turn the thing on??

@“connrrr”#p123032 can we also just talk Bc about how cool the Pippin logo is?

That is some S tier design right there!

The sound of the PSX start up with the Sony Computer Entertainment image was awesome audibly, but dreadful spiritually, because after a certain point in my PSX’s life, I never knew if my game disc was going to actually load/be read or not. So waiting for the follow up Playstation logo & sound always felt like an eternity.

That’s something. It’s like a ad for itself when you’ve already bought the thing.

Really weird choice to dust off the “Have You Played Atari Today?” jingle.

Speaking of ads for itself @rejj and Xbones being turned on, did you all know the One X has a unique boot animation that reminds you there is a special chip inside of it?

I actually really like the xbone startup chime and think the one they went with for the serieses couldn’t be more generic

PS!!!! I now own four gamecube controllers, and got to hear this with my own ears the other day with careful contorting of my fingers.

Thinking about that one Mega CD boot-up screen that has the sinister music that kinda slaps hard.

This sounds like the final dungeon in a JRPG.

The Sega Dreamcast sounding like a plane taking off.

The Sega Master System outside of Japan:

Being before they did the vocal Se-ga on Sonic for the Mega Drive, that is all I can hear.

Meanwhile in Japan they were clearly happier!

Having had a Mega CD myself I remember this happier ditty:

It took the Dreamcast for a global boot up sound. Maybe that was the downfall - standardised boot music!

Still to this day I get phantom sounds where I thought I heard someone power on a GBA. It started in my 6th grade classroom where the teacher’s email tone sounded similar to the point where myself and a couple other kids in the class were triggered by it every time. GBA had just come out so it was the most exciting sound to hear.

Nowadays when I turn on a GBA I expect everyone in the room to pause what they’re doing and go, was that a GBA? But they never do.

I have a xbonex and didn’t know that. I probably have turned it on before the tv every time and then kept it in suspend until putting it in storage once done with whatever 360 I was playing on it.
