Ah, once again the answer to “why are people doing this!?” is France. I love it!
I worked on a game that sold disproportionately well in France - but that's because it's the only country in which it was officially released ;_;

I am not criticizing your business decisions but having Necrosoft make an entire game about camembert was a weird idea in the first place.
Cavemanembert
The caveman game I played the most as a kid was B.C. Bill on the Commodore 64.
I also liked the SNES Bonk game, in part due to its memorable pause sound.
BC bill! That‘s a new one to me. I wonder if there’s someone out there who's just full on into cavemen as a concept
@slugpaste you totally reminded me of the horrible game BCs Quest on the 2600. From my memory it was a low rent endless runner.
BC‘s Quest for Tires! It’s in the original list (I should add BC Bill, I realize) - and there was a sequel for some reason! they were just making games about whatever (as long as it was a license) back in those days.
The last time I flew to Japan, there was a shockingly fun block pushing puzzle game where you played as a caveman, trying to get fire to the end of the level. I really wish I remembered the name, but I doubt it‘s available on anything other than the back of seat screens on ANA flights, so I’m not sure remembering the name would do anything anyways (other than make it possible to add it to the list here).
@Chekhonte I had Quest for Tires 1 and 2 on my Commodore 64 as well. Those games were interesting in how cartoon-like they were with their unusually-large sprites.
Since I just saw it in my own shelves a few minutes ago, I am suddenly reminded that Simple2000 Series Vol.99: The Genshijin (« the cavemen ») is not on Brandon’s list. It was a rather well-received Pikmin clone. It even received a pseudo-sequel with samurai cats (no pizza) and later a port to the Nintendo DS.
Oh yeah!! Gotta get that one on there for sure
I played Chuck Rock 1 and 2 tonight and I'm popping into this thread to offer my opinion that they, indeed, suck terribly.
I… I liked Chuck Rock (the first one) as a child. It was very popular over here. It was even kind of a big deal that they bothered to make a Master System version at the time, for those less fortunate who did not have the means for a Mega Drive (like me) or an Amiga. It’s a European thing, you popular New World kids wouldn’t understand! /slams bedroom door
@chazumaru I find that actually pretty fascinating. I wonder what being in different locals does to one’s taste in games. I say this because Chuck Rock 1 and 2 are pretty much the opposite of what I dig.
Wow, I knew chuck rock had to be popular somewhere for them to make a sequel. the answer was Chaz’s house!~!~
adding these games here to the list @Chekhonte, thankee
[edit: now realizing it already got added!]
I had this on the BBC Micro. A Steam version was released last year.
@Dunkr
If Neopets had a prehistoric paintbrush, that thing on the cover is what a prehistoric Chia would look like.
@hellomrkearns there was a few years back where I was highly enamored with Pri Pri and really wanted to pick up a copy, lol.
Heck yeah!! I came here to mention BC Bill!! I love that game, and I still have the music stuck in my head. The walking food items with legs are a personal favourite. I remember being five years old and drawing the loading screen.
I also played plenty of the completely unrelated BC’s quest for Tires.
Finally, Bonk was released as BC Kid in the UK on Amiga. That was possibly the version I played most!
Why aren’t there even more caveman games?!
