I just checked, and 1985 has City Connection, Fairyland Story and Teddy Boy Blues. Good year!
My alt suggestion would be to skip around a bit and do the big meaty years since enthusiasm might peter out by the time we get to 98 if we did strictly chronological. But maybe not! Just a thought.
What year should we do next?
- start back at 1980
- 1985
- a second thread for 1986
- 1987
- other (write in)
Once a month and chronological seems good to me, with the allowance to move on to the next year earlier than that if discussion on a given year tapers off two or three weeks in
You think insert credit forums won’t want to talk about Parasite Eve a year from now?
LOL. Good point. I guess I’m just drawn to crazy ideas…
Honestly… I do rock with Metroid. Zero Mission which does not apply here but really gave me a lot of affection for the NES original. It’s such a pure feeling game.
But mine might be Bubble Bobble? My buddies and I used to rock so much virtual console bubble bobble in middle school it’s a pretty special game to me, and honestly LTTP and Super Metroid move the originals so far forward it’s hard for me to feel like they’re what I’ll play. Similarly to Mario 1 and Mario 3.
You know what: you decide.
OutRun lobby has deep pockets
My point is that there were zero Tetris games made in 1984, they were all made in 1985—even the E60 version—but later the Tetris Company changed some dates.
To confirm dates a source before the big change in 2009 is needed.
For example, Vadim Gerasimov is on record saying that he started at the Computer Centre in September 1984 and at that point Tetris didn’t exist.
Oh sure, I wasn’t arguing that. i was just saying the 1985 version of Tetris doesn’t really compete with Super Mario Bros.
Oh, absolutely!
I understand why people want to start in 86, but so many of my favorite games are in the first half of the 80s. Makes me a little sad that no one else here seems to think so, but not that sad
I think going sequentially year by year for these threads makes sense, but I will say I’m a little disappointed that starting in 1986 means I won’t get to cast a vote for the Royal Game of Ur in the GOTY 2600 BC thread
I want to talk Bosconian!
Also Super Mario Bros certainly doesn’t make my top 5 1985 games. It might squeek into the top 10
What if on the 15th every month we go forward 1 year, and on the 1st every month we go backward one year?
I assume 1985 was skipped because it’s a runaway win for Wrecking Crew
Wicked pissah
As long as we do the early years because I want to vote for Qix or Tempest, 1981
