Only someone who has played a lot of Pokemon could write so thoroughly about what sucks about it. The gym details and plot details are marvelous. I didn’t count the Pokemon, but you got quite a few in there!

Assembling a team of fantasy monsters in a turn based JRPG is so inherently fun that it almost doesn’t matter how good the parts are. Every pokemon game is good because you can name your weird critters and hang out with them. Ever other monster-catcher-battler RPG is good for the same reason. World of Final Fantasy is good. Dragon Quest 5 is good.
Except for Palworld. Palworld doesn’t get it. But all the other ones are good.
A lot of games that looked bad to me have come out over the years, but that one stands out in its ability to make me feel genuinely sick to my stomach
Liking Palworld is maybe gaming’s cleanest litmus test on whether or not I will like hanging out with someone. Utterly repellent game.

that making a party is so inherently fun, and yet so few games do it well is pretty appalling. The problem for me usually is that the pokemon or characters never actually interact in any meaningful way. Something like how you build out Suikoden 2s town is cool, but its pretty one note. Basically there shouldn’t just be a pokemon trainer game, there needs to be a pokemon life sim. We need pokemon concierge the game
