That hacky meme observation about how a samurai could have received a fax, but it's about how Certified Gamer Gangster Anthony Junior aka “AJ” Soprano from The Sopranos could have played Evergrace or Armored Core 2 in a hotel room
Wasn’t a Madden one of the early PS2 games? Obvious answer if so
Madden NFL 2001 was indeed also a PlayStation 2 North American launch title, and it would most certainly be available for loan in a hotel room in October-November-December of 2000. Certified Gamer Gangster Anthony Junior aka “AJ” Soprano seems like he’d be not that into that, the boy is just not a jock or even a prep like his sister. Could go either way
@Gaagaagiins i love the research here. i just want to call attention to how funny AND sad it is for this to be a kid’s only thing to say after taking a trip. but then again hey the world needs ditch diggers too.
@Gaagaagiins my quote will gain a reference to you soon
Our boy Certified Gamer Gangster Anthony Junior aka “AJ” Soprano seems to have a thing for racing games up to this point. What's the likelihood a hotel would have Midnight Club: Street Racing, Moto GP or Ridge Racer V? Maybe even Smugglers Run?
What is going on with CGGAJakaAJ Soprano at this point of season 3? Maybe the racing interest has given way to something a little more angsty?
At this point…
Details
He has been made defensive captain of his private Christian high school. He also participated in a pretty severe act of vandalism after breaking into the school's swimming pool late at night and throwing a bunch of stuff into the pool.He seems well past his Nietzsche reading phase, however. Angst is perhaps something he is capable of, but he feels closer to a sort of existential crisis of a more lugubrious nature than angst.
Speaking of the above spoiler tagged situation, it unfortunately seems that Season 3 will continue to harbor a fairly anti-gamer sentiment!
Why don’t we just go ahead and add child abuse to the long list of Tony Soprano’s crimes…
without looking it up, try to guess what celebrity cameo was in this scene
@Gaagaagiins only Sega, VHS and rollerblading allowed.
@Gaagaagiins this post has me thinking about when we used to talk about game systems like they were uncountable nouns (they had playstation 2) and not countable nouns (they had a playstation 2). When did this shift happen! I kinda miss it, like, super nintendo is not a plastic block of circuit boards but an essence, a liquid, something you can just drink for a little while
@Gaagaagiins If that’s the case he may be taking a more active role in exploring new identities, so the racing interest could be less of a focus.
He’s also probably grappling with the power dynamic between him and his father (ie. the ultimate force between him and his games, a force willing to use any means necessary (cheating) to prevent his success) - At this stage he doesn’t seem the type to delve strictly into something out of pure avoidance/escapism, so I’m thinking he may seek out some kind of power fantasy.
Which launch game would enable this and be available for rent at a hotel? I would LOVE to say Armored Core 2, but I don’t know the popularity/ubiquity of that series at the time and not sure if a hotel owner / manager would go for something like that.
I was 11 years old when this was shot, and marketable adolescents were never within my interests, even as an unmarketable adolescent. The only names that even remotely come to mind is “Johnathan Taylor Thomas,” or “Aaron Carter,” in terms of celebrities roughly my age plus a few years, and that’s only because they were in the category of “boys my sister had marketed to her as cute.”
@brillpickle Every console is the new Nintendo if you’re brave enough!
@Gaagaagiins so i kinda misspoke because they weren’t actually a celebrity at the time, meaning it wasn’t a cameo per se. anyway the answer is lady gaga
Even just thinking of Armored Core 2 in terms of a power fantasy is funny to me, in terms of how much time just learning how to freaking play it plus sitting staring at bars and numbers in the garage it would take to feel powerful playing it.
@MoH Lmfao I never would have gotten that in a million years holy shit
@Gaagaagiins Well, he is a Certified Gamer Gangster.
She's from Joisey after all!!
