@“wickedcestus”#p92767 so what I did (in true Death Stranding spirit) was I went through a map in the middle of the night while too tired to think straight, and wrote incredibly vague directions for each one
This actually seems like a really cool mechanic for, say, a DS era adventure game. Like, one of Phantom Hourglass's gimmicks is that you can write on maps, but what if you're only given the maps at some hub area and for the rest of the game you have to use some in game notebook with laughably little space that you write in using the stylus? Once again we mourn the death of the DS and all the silly game mechanics those two screens and that stylus gave us. (Though there's no reason you can't do this with a phone game. (Obviously one could cheat and just use real life paper for infinite writing space, but that's no fun.))

@“yeso”#p92779 I have a story about my partner & I having a video game safe word, I may have told it on the forum before but I can’t retell it right now since I already cashed in all my good boy points on the post above. (It’s waluigi)
I just beat Chapter 1 of Tactics Ogre: Reborn, and it‘s great! It’s been a hell of a year for Square Enix's haughty story driven tactical SRPGs, between this, Triangle Strategy, and Diofield Chronicle.
I love the SMT-style opening this game has. It adds so much mystique to a game when you start with a personality test and pulling tarot cards. The Lawful/Neutral/Chaotic system looks great and has some great story beats to choose from. The story choices are very compelling. I also like the game's voice acting, it contributes to the pacing and atmosphere in a very positive direction. I have never gotten more than a few hours into Let Us Cling Together before, but I am really excited about this version.
Playing Killer7 right now, and reading the dialogue feels uniquely odd. Not because the dialogue itself is “weird,” I don‘t really know—there is the oblique prose but it’s in combination with the sound design (raspy shrieking, deep warbling, chipmunk talk, no music) and some third je ne sais quoi which together make it feel like I'm reading disconnected individual words for thirty seconds, then recalling and putting them all together in an instant once the talking is finished.

@“captain”#p92851 what a cool game Killer 7 is, dang.
i would love to see a thread where we all talk to each other like we're Killer 7 psychos.
I am about 80% done with a super large post about a game (involving me capturing footage that isn’t on YouTube and doing some first-I’ve-seen translation work). It’s super long and will involve lots of expandable sections and headings. I’m just saying this now to get a bit of attention as I’ve had a rough day and the hope I’ve got for the dialogue the post will inspire is one of my energy sources. The thread will either be called “Let me tell you about ___” or “The case for ____” or another more eye grabbing or inviting title. That’s it for now!
@“MDS-02”#p92859 hell fucking yes this sounds like it's gonna be awesome
@“MDS-02”#p92859 whoa cool
Obama is a Cyberpunk based on all the choom talk in 2077
@“MDS-02”#p92859 I am glad I am not the only one who thinks Ultra Kaijū Monster Farm is the Game of the Year.
Just like the intro MV to KH1 is still one of the coolest and possibly most beautiful things I’ve ever seen or heard, KH2 intro movie was amazing.
It also really super payed off played through both sides of chain of memes beforehand. All this stuff was just confusing and frustrating when I tried playing KH2 as a kid.
Now it feels like not only the gap between FFX and FFXII has been filled, but this feels like it could surpass both of those in production… idk
Also I’m not looking to argue semantics on any of this but… the way chain of memories are KH2 were produced back to back, by the time kingdom hearts II comes around it does all feel very expertly interwoven
The cutscenes are nailing the movie like presentation and I’m noticing a lot of advanced effects I didn’t see as a kid in the environments like the wide angle lens, depth of field, etc
The format of chain of memes was so video gamey, and now there’s a lot of high-technology foreshadowing going on. Hm..
got to the inverted castle in sotn.
real glad they lead with the clock tower fulla cloaked armors and medusas so i didn't have to wait long to figure out i was done!
i appreciate the opportunity to bail, i had my fun.
i'm sure the gitgud bosses are more interesting which stinks cuz there aren't a ton of great ones in bb's first castle but overall i really enjoyed this, my real first experience with a castlevania! it's always been a series that i like conceptually but only ever tried 1, 2, and lords and bounced off em into a wood chipper.
6-10 hrs is pretty much what i'm looking for in a metroidvania-->metvan-->mudvayne and this nailed it (sorta). my biggest gripe with hollow knight was i could just never fuckin figure out how far along i was and after like 50 or 60 hrs i had maybe two bosses left and just quit (including the titular knight), never to return.
yever make a s'more with a symphony bar? worth a try. gives it a texture. toffee. do you ever find out what's up with that big eyeball starin' at you in that one long hallway? shit's my worst nightmare; giant thing lookin' at ya. awful. there's that harrowing scene in return of godzilla where he *sees* the military dude? awful. great movie.
@“Lunarchivist”#p93014 my theory is that the eye is hanging in the garden area exclusive to the saturn port. I started playing the Saturn version but haven’t made it to the garden yet so idk if he shows up or not.
@“Syzygy”#279 i read your linked interview and now I will respond with some insider information which I discovered when I was 10
I was traveling for a funeral last week and– oh no, I accidentally started a playthrough of Persona 5 Royal on Switch!
All criticism aside (almost all of which I agree with), P5 in general is a kind of comfort food of games for me, and I've been having a good time with it (and it sucked up a whole bunch of time on planes and in airports that I needed to be distracted from). I think the most interesting thing so far has been trying to figure out what's different from vanilla P5 and how much of what I think is different is actually just me not remembering parts of vanilla P5. I also don't typically replay games, except much older and shorter ones, so it's also interesting to see how a lot of it plays for me now that I know what's going to happen (or as much as I remember at least).
It sure does still look great from a design perspective! I also think the various systems have sunken in a little better this time around, either because it communicates things slightly better or because I'm actually paying better attention! Either way I'm having a fun time, and I'm looking forward to the extra content.
