@“tokucowboy”#p39253 wild, i was just thinking about Infinite Space, and how fond my memories of it are, despite it being not all that much fun to play. in your description, you nailed what‘s great about it, and my gosh it makes a good first impression. i file this one in the same category as The Dark Spire - DS games that excel at absolutely everything a video game can excel at, except the part where it’s a video game and you have to play it
just popping in to say how smitten i am with moon. it‘s really lovely, but my guess is i’m late to discover that. also, the translation by action button‘s own tim rogers is really tim rogersy, to the point that i can’t help but read some of it in his voice. a nice bonus get!
I‘ve been playing Homeland! I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about it right now but I can at least say I want to learn more

@“Kimimi”#p40356 Oh! Can it be played (in any meaningful way) offline? Or do you go through some dark magic shenanigans on a private server? I remember a friend playing it online back then and kinda regretting not “having been there” with him. I had not realized you could still play it today / offline.
@“chazumaru”#p40357 There‘s a full offline mode available without any trickery, although playing as “god” isn’t available (AFAIK) and the ability to type out your own text for others is obviously useless (bar unlocking those dark chests, I think?). So it's most like PSO in that regard - not the way it was supposed to be played, but it can be played.
@“Syzygy”#p40360 @“Kimimi”#p40359 Thanks! That’s quite convenient! I am now finding out the obvious consequence that some Japanese fans are still playing online and even have a dedicated Discord group. Or at least all this was true just three years ago.

@“chazumaru”#p40363 Oh, neat!
@“Kimimi”#p40356 whaaaaaaaaaaaat?? I thought I was the only one who cared about this game. I own a hard copy! would have loved this so much as a kid.
I love all the little UI elements in that video above, seeing the way people's messages type out is neat. I always wanted to check out that game after seeing it in Nintendo Official Magazine years back, I always figured the online portion was more of a requirement than it was.
I recently acquired a pristine DSi XL at an extremely reasonable price (aside: what a lovely swansong for the DS hardware - despite being glued to a DS lite for most of my teens I never actually held a DSi XL until now). As a result, and thanks to the amazing homebrew scene, I‘ve been exploring areas of the DS library that I missed - and what a wonderful library it is. I’ve been dipping in and out of Bangai-O Spirits and Picross DS - two VERY different games which both happen to be perfect for casual play.
Mostly though, I've just been playing Dragon Quest V remake, which is an absolute delight. To echo @"tokucowboy"#p40295 sprites on low poly backgrounds is the coziest JRPG aesthetic.
@“altdrifter”#p40398 I recently acquired a DSi XL too and those giant screens are lovely for all of those games that you mention, all for different reasons. They really make your eyes pop whilst playing Bangai-o Spirits, and it's so much more easy to see puzzles on Picross.
I‘ve been playing Geist for Gamecube lately and have been really enjoying it. I’m still in the earlier portion of the game, maybe it gets bad or become too repetitive but I don‘t really understand why this isn’t considered a more significant game on the platform. I don‘t think I’ve ever heard anyone talking about it in the past decade.
It‘s kind of an FPS, but the primary focus is more on puzzle-solving. You play as a ghost and you can only really interact with things by possessing them. To possess a living thing, you first need to scare it, so you might possess a trash can and cause garbage to fly up and explode, then possess a telephone and make it say spooky stuff before you can possess a soldier who’s able to open doors and get past checkpoints. It‘s all more straightforward and simple than it sounds; it’s a very linear game but I don't think of that as a bad thing.
(I feel a little silly for owning this game for over a decade but now playing it until now.)
Extremely late to the party on Castlevania, but I've played about 10 minutes of Aria of Sorrow and, dang, this is some good stuff.
As a heads up to any developer who may be reading this (who knows maybe even the person responsible), if you want to tailor your videogame specifically to me all you need to do is show this the very second I push start.

Which is exactly what Paradise Killer did, so thank you very much @"Chopemon"#694 very appreciated
I made it to the exit in escape from tarkov for the first time, and I immediately went from “this game is too hard and I'm old” to “I'm in the prime of life and this game is great.” Can‘t wait to unlock the flea market at lvl 20 so I can buy a tape measure and some toilet paper (have a bottle of $$$ vodka I’m holding onto for this purpose)
In other slavic news, dismayed to see the release date for know by heart changed from "q2 2021" to "2021." fuck!
@“yeso”#p40581 Good memories from throwing out my shit to the river while blacking out from hemorrhage to avoid being looted by extremely tryhard high level players in that game.
@“marlfuchs2”#p40424 my project this weekend is to get the gba and ds Castlevanias working on the living room tv, my roommate and I haven‘t played them since 2014 and we’re both feeling the need to kill Dracula
@“Funbil”#p38814 Just beat Wild Arms literally right now. Incredible game!! Surprisingly poignant theming in the narrative through 2021 eyes, as well. Did not expect this game to speak (abstractly) to the state of the world literally right now, and especially not so optimistically. Honestly inspiring. Great looking game, great playing game, gorgeous music the entire time, one of my new favorites for sure. I initially planned on just going through the main story stuff, but as I neared the end of the game, I didn't want it to end and plowed through all the side content and optional bosses, lol. That has not happened to me with many games. Anyone else here who has played Wild Arms, this is an open invitation to gush about any parts you liked!
Played Idol Hakkenden recently and I have enjoyed it so far. It is a very simple-minded and earnest visual novel that adapts King Lear into a comedy anime-ish that works fine because of how much it lets you enable and try things. There are also some nice puns during the course of the whole run, so if you want to try it be my guest.
@“MichaelDMcGrath”#p40585 how are you doing that? I’m guessing emulation, but I’d like to know more.
