@“BluntForceMama”#p153279 Did Nintendo even announce anything about a Switch 2? I thought all news/leaks have been from speculating Youtuber personalities.
Another banner day for the video game industry

@“Updog”#p155202 Real dark stuff
has happened before-- sony has sued over emulators-- and they didn't win!

I don't believe they did.
I love my Canadians but I am gonna have to unfollow LTT Media group’s techlinked channel because I feel they’re like the Fox News of bottom of the barrel tech sensationalism at this point. Any time I overhear something guaranteed I’ll see their thumbnail where they are sensationalizing or catastrophizing it
A story about Kojima made the main page of our national broadcaster’s news site

@“rejj”#p155300 God that top image is such a meme format waiting to happen.

I think whats different is rather than just trying to stop the emulation from happening (which from what I can tell was what Sony was attempting in those 1999/2000 lawsuits), they're seeking life-destroying penalties like they did with the doughy guy that hacked the switch. Citing various 38 year old grown men nintendo fans crying about zelda spoilers on twitter as examples of harm is a new one too lol
@“Mnemogenic”#p155231 I am almost getting numb to the corporate lingo explaining that the company is super sad to sack people even though it made a lot of money last year thanks to those same people, but I am curious about this part:

We are also sunsetting games and moving away from development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry.
The only thing EA is licensing anymore is Marvel and Star Wars. Pretty big shift from the previous strategy (that’s par for the course for EA) but I also wonder how much that impacts the team at Disney in charge of games as they would suddenly lose one of their most prominent partners for premium games.

@“yeso”#p155359 doughy guy
hey i think he looked pretty good for his age
Something that‘s wild to me about the video game industry in general, but especially for Nintendo, is that executives never get questions about this stuff. Like, every journalist should be asking Doug Bowser about their aggressive/inhumane legal strategy, but they don’t, I assume, as a precondition to getting to talk to him in the first place. It's dark stuff.
@“yeso”#p155359 Oh, you mean Gary Bowser?!
That last name coupled with the absurd penalty colors that whole series of events as some kind of fatalist tragedy. Like, how many other people were doing this? They targeted him specifically because of his last name, right?
Do not cross the Nintengods
@“safety_lite”#p155384 if you haven‘t seen this clip from the trial, it’s pretty eye-opening to how nintendo operates
@“rejj”#p155300 “In the late 1990s, Kojima headed up the team that created the Metal Gear series”
is this a typo or MSX erasure?
@“MoH”#p155389 Pick a lane Nintendo!!
Report: Saber Interactive buys itself back from Embracer in $500m deal
[Report: Gearbox may also be leaving Embracer](https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/report-gearbox-may-also-be-leaving-embracer)
More like Unbracer, amarite?
Also it's misdirected. they are upset that people like me pirated tears of the kingdom a week before release after the rom leaked… But none of us were playing it on Yuzu. It was barely playable on yuzu at all until very recently. We were just playing it on hacked switches. and this type of behavior is only going to worsen consumer sentiment. boycott nintendo.
but also it is true that yuzu did not cover their asses in regards to displaying games being played that hadn't come out yet on their emulator and other things mentioned in that article.
Maybe that this can happen on the Steam store is only news to me but uhhh Steam just pushed a fake, heavily discounted HELLDIVERS 2 to the front page:
>!
>!
Uses all the same store assets, plus they changed the developer/publisher fields to match. I guess you can put whatever you want in there?? Anyone who's pushed a game to Steam could probably clarify.
They even went so far as to replicate the most recent update posts:
>!
According to its app history on SteamDB, it used to be called _DO NOT SMILE_: https://steamdb.info/app/2630550/history/. They only renamed it to _HELLDIVERS 2_ about five hours ago.
**Mid-post breaking news: the game is now unavailable for purchase lol**
Prior to its removal from the store, though, I noticed it had a twin: https://steamdb.info/app/2607830/history/. Same deal as before, but discounted at 75% off. Both games were listed alongside the real _HELLDIVERS 2_ when I searched the store for Arrowhead Game Studios.
Pretty wild!!!! Apparently there's been a precedent for this kind of thing since as far back as 2018: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/07/valve-removes-steam-game-after-allegations-of-hidden-cryptocurrency-miner/
fyi Jeff Gerstmann bought a gamescent.
