âThe Big Oneâ for strategy gaming enthusiasts is getting teased.
Johan Andersson from Paradox is teasing Project Caesar... which appears to be Europa Universalis 5. All we really know about it now is that it's using the [Gall Stereographic projection ](https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diary/tinto-talks-2-march-6th-2024.1626415/)and has [pops](https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diary/tinto-talks-3-march-13th-2024.1630154/). Paradox is letting go of its 'board game' mechanics and fully embracing simulation which probably means they're getting rid of a lot of the randomness I enjoyed in EU4.
Of course nothing gets past history simulation nerds, so this screenshot showing India without the [Bahmanis sultinate ](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fd853jmpcf4oc1.png) and what appears to be the [population of the Byzantine Empire](https://forumcontent.paradoxplaza.com/public/1084445/1710317019801.png) higher than it was in 1444 is making everyone think that the start date of the game is 100 years earlier, which would effectively add another quarter of playtime to already very long campaigns. It would also mean more time pre-colonialism which would be great. My only worry is that by making the game obscenely huge, it will dilute a lot of the flavor that makes playing in different countries and regions feel so unique.
I don't see the game coming out before 2026 and I think Paradox has a lot riding on it. They haven't had a real hit lately and seem to have been struggling to support games like CK3, Victoria 3, and Cities Skylines 2.
I'm something of a big PSSR myself.

And while hardly marketing approved, Sony lays out in very basic terms what PlayStation 5 Pro - Project Trinity - is setting out to achieve. Similar to PS4 Pro, it is of the same generation as the base model (called the âstandardâ PS5 now by Sony) but offers enhancements in the form of higher rendering resolutions, higher effective rendering resolutions via custom machine learning silicon and a new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technique. The ray tracing capabilities are also augmented by 2x to 4x depending on the workload.
@âconnrrr "#p158742 higher rendering resolutions?! 2x ray tracing??? gaming is BACK
@âMoHâ#p158769 videogames have come a long way since the release of the base PS5.Pac-Man

BTW hereâs another one of my completely out of pocket Nintendo Switch forestallment predictions: in the 11th or 12th hour of the Switchâs marketability, GAME FREAK shall release a really good pokemon title that will sweep the world and revitalize the system, bringing together gamers and non gamers alike, and cause the system to last another 5 years.
Human Entertainment - inspired roguelike Withering Rooms is available for purchase
I hadnât heard of this one before, looks like it may be interesting!
Have you (or anyone else here) tried it yet?
Thatâs a heck of a pitch. Kind of a shame to see how focused they are on combat though⌠Clocktower was already semi-roguelike-ish with its randomized room placements, and the character select at the start of S.O.S. along with its vast open-ended nature similarly encouraged multiple playthroughs. This style of adventure game is definitely ripe for further extrapolation from indies â but not by forcing them to be like other roguelikes! Gotta wonder what they saw in Human Entertainment games when the interest seems to mostly be in pumping it full of action encounters.
from watching gameplay video, Iâd guess the rationale for including so much combat is that the game is a systems-focused roguelike, and weapons and fighting is another way to progress. Itâs not a survival game like Clock Tower or Septentrion. The narrative takes place in a dream, so no urgent need for realism within that framework
Edit: sorry, I see now that youâd already anticipated the rationale. About these good taste-focused independent games, I think they sometimes do get bogged down in stuff instead of going with a strong, simple organizing thrust. The Beer Barons also comes to mind. Impeccable idea, a little too eager to impress with systems
I guess the best thing about indies is that theyâre always learning from each other. This one may not be for me, but surely someone will look at this and say âHey yeah, you know what, those Human Entertainment games did have something going onâ and maybe by 2034 weâll see Human Entertainment-likes as often as we see EarthBounds and Paper Marios, lol
Via gamedeveloper.com: âDistributedâ studio Possibility Space abruptly shut down by Prytania Media
Prytania Mediaâs first subsidiary has been closed âwithout warning,â according to those affected.
As far as I know the studio did not even get a chance to announce or even reveal anything about the project they were working on, but Contemporary Videogame Icon/Actual Play Podcast Titan Austin Walker was involved with this studio.
oh no
but:
In his statement, Strain claimed he was asked non-public information about a game named Project Vonnegut. Following a meeting with an unnamed publishing partner, he canceled the project and ended the studio.
âTo see internal team members under a confidentiality agreement engage in [these leaks] was sickening,â wrote Strain.
âŚobviously we know approximately nothing about whatever is going on, but this reads like there was a (small? at least, not public?) leak, and his response was to Go Nuclear and shut the entire studio down? What the heck
âŚyep, if you read Strainâs statements at face value, thatâs the spin he tried to put on it.
I think itâs pretty big news that the new Sand Land trailer went ahead and used Sandstorm by Darude
they even put (feat. Darude) in the YouTube video title
