(Archived) The thread in which we discuss the videogames we are playing in the year 2023

@“connrrr”#p126747 I would rather have that! It would be easier to get used to something totally different as opposed to a complete opposite day-assed reversal of standards

Related, games that use the triggers as an alterative "confirm" button in addition to "A" make me so happy. Didn't Dragon Quest XI and a recent Pokemon do that? Let me at least hold a coffee cup while I get through the tutorial dialogue guys

@“tokucowboy”#p126753 I think Pokémon‘s always done that! I love it too. Wish it were standard at least in areas where you’re just examining things or advancing dialogue.

Bought Pseudoregalia yesterday after just happening upon after almost buying Gloomwood (I played the demo. Really good! Will buy eventually for sure).

Most of the reviews say the movement is very fun and that‘s all I really need to hear.

I played for about 20 minutes last night because I needed sleep, the movement is indeed quite nice.

Combat so far is not so common, fought the first boss and it was very simple which I’m pretty okay with.

Dev seems to be working on another game called Electrokinetic which also seems very movement-based so I'll likely be picking that up when it releases.

I just love movin around!

i finished system shock a couple of days ago. good game! ending does kinda suck tho

||after fighting through the whole station you enter a cyberspace terminal and get a shitty beam rifle to fire at a big spire in the middle of the map, all while being attacked by the same cyber critters from the flying sections. and you have infinite respawns so there are no stakes, you could very easily ignore them and just shoot the spire. and then after that the hacker just collapses on the floor and credits roll.||

this is a game you play for the ride in between, getting more powerful and losing my fear of the stronger enemies felt great, like i said i only used the walkthrough when i got lost, letting myself explore each floor first of all and then looking at the guide to figure out what i was actually supposed to be doing. in the end it's not much of an immersive sim since stealth isn't a real option, but as a survival horror romp it does the job very well

ok, i‘m doing it, i got mother 3 loaded up on my 3ds and i’m gonna play the whole thing. this is for some reason like my 4th attempt at it — the first coupla times were in emulators and not being able to do the rhythm-based battle stuff properly on an emulator really annoyed me so i stalled out on those. last time was when i first put it on my 3ds just to try it out and i got a little bit of the way in, but the rhythm stuff works perfectly here so hell yeah. it is a little annoying having played the same intro bit over and over but once i push through that i imagine i'll be having a good one

I‘m on to Ys 5 for the SNES and everything has changed! Manual slash, manual shield, and a jump button! I think I’ve adjusted. though I sometimes can‘t tell when something is jumpable. I’m liking the narrative so far, even if I like the game mechanics less. Lumberjack village was fun. Adol seemingly becoming part of local legend is also pretty funny.

@“Karasu”#p126707 you can remap the controller's buttons on a system level through the option menus jfyi. not ideal but eh

@“LeFish”#p125773 I went to Arcade Club in Manchester last weekend

Arcade Club Bury? I've been there a couple times! Probably the best arcade I've been to in a long time. So much stuff there, it just keeps going!

I have started Pikmin 2 (2004).

The game has such a pretty title screen and unlike in the first *Pikmin* this one's is interactive: L or R will cause the flower pikmin to disperse. I loved how quickly you could boot the first game up and get playing and that snappiness returns here. I love a game with pick-up-and-play and first party games prior to Wii excelled at it.

The premise is a little too real lol. I feel for Olimar. He should have just taken his family and gone straight back to Earth.

FYI: upon returning home, Olimar finds that the shipping company he works for is in serious debt and collectors immediately reposses his newly reassembled ship, but his boss quickly realizes that some garbage he brought back as a souvenir is worth enough to put a dent in what's left to be paid back. So Olimar and his bug-eyed coworker Louie set off for the pikmin homeworld together in search of another man's treasure.

Shifting between the deuteragonists is done at the touch of a button and happens with a warped and down-pitched ᴏʟɪᴍᴀʀ**!** or **ʟᴏᴜɪᴇᴇ** voiceover and it's great.

The cute nature of the character designs once again belies a much darker sense of humour. I love a game whose narrative backbone doesn't get in the way but is still worth paying attention to. I hear the latest entry doesn't accomplish this so much.

Oh and there's product placement. One of the first items your find is a Duracell battery.

Tag yourself, I'm Citrus Lump.

I'm a Pikmin fan now. These games are impressing me a whole lot.

I‘ve really gotten into probing weird Nintendo games since posting here. I’d like to get back to finishing off the Wario Land series soon, and also checking out stuff like Mole Mania and Captain Rainbow.

@“Kez”#p126981 That's the one! They had a bunch of new stuff since my first visit in 2019 though I spent most of my time in the STG and fighting game cubby hole.

I'd like to go to the one in Leeds too one day as they've a few things that aren't at the Bury site but it's comfortably a five hour drive. Oof!

@“connrrr”#p127022 I‘m loving this Pikmin discovery for you, and hope you will one day join me in the Pikmin Completionist Zone (we don’t include Hey! Pikmin in our canon). Thanks for bringing us on this ride, Citrus Lump.

Mole Mania and the Wario Land games absolutely rule. Makes me think that maybe I should try Captain Rainbow as well lol.

@“whatsarobot”#p127058 is that someone who's 100%'d all Pikmin games?? I think I might have the third one loaded on my Wii U.

@“connrrr”#p127065 Maybe not 100%‘d, but let’s say “played to the end and loved” all Pikmin games.

I'm still working on 4, to be fair, but I'll finish it just like I did the first three. Just such a wonderful series, and I'm always happy to see it getting recognition.

playing Like a Dragon: Ishin! lately, and while the combat is feeling somewhat lackluster to me (I‘m sure it’ll get better as I get more upgrades and access to the full moveset) but MAN the substories in this one are outstanding. Like, in competition with 0 and 7 for my favorite substories in the series. Plus the hang outitude of late Edo period Japan is pretty off the charts.

I have played more video pinball this week than I have ever before. I can feel my brain changing. I‘m getting pretty good at Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire, and I’m having a sort of tetris effect where I see the gameplay when I shut my eyes. while playing I get into a flow state, and my brain is forming new passageways.

@“HyggeState”#p126914 My moods throughout each weekday.

@“HyggeState”#p127327 hell yeah
