(Archived) The thread in which we discuss the videogames we are playing in the year 2023

It's a real testament to how intuitive the first Pikmin is that I sussed out all the mechanics I needed to know in order to collect every part in time on my own without a manual or a wiki.

@“穎”#p127540 ochimono game

What do you mean by this term? I tried googling it and couldn't quite get anything to connect.

I played one round of Carton-kun tonight based on your description and my love of Carcassonne. A cool, weird puzzle game, for sure. Thanks for putting this in my radar! I could see myself maybe getting way too into it.

@“rearnakedwindow”#p129467

ochimono kinda means "falling thing" in Japanese and it's the name for the "Tetris-like falling thing puzzle game" genre used in Japan. It is not very used in the west as far as I know and I'm not sure how popular it is of a term in Japan but a lot more results show up when you search it in Japanese (èœăĄç‰©). the long name would be ochimono puzzle though èœăĄç‰©ăƒ‘ă‚șル.
I just use it cause it doesn't have the vagueness of "puzzle game".
Maybe someone else can weigh in regarding the popularity of the term.

I'm still playing carton-kun frequently and I recently learned that there's a PSP version called puzzle guzzle in the US or Mawaskes: Based on Carton-kun in Japan.

haven't played that one though

@“connrrr”#p129462 About that manual I mentioned that came with Pikmin 3, what I didn’t show was that it’s kind of a stretch to call it thicc and only comes with four unique pages that are repeated in French and Spanish. It’s certainly more than just a little slip though. Were kids really not reading them anymore?

sounds like there wasn't much to read!!!!!!!!!!
Pikmin 1 manual was an all time epic one, what with those diagrams showing pikmin and olimar's size relative to a GCN disc and controller!! *Iconic*

on a big Metal Slug kick, practicing my no-death-all-prisoners runs on each stage of the first game. I'm playing the playstation 1 port, which has neat extra features like a fully voiced lady.

I'm playing Lost Judgment and sorry, but I have a confession to make: Kuwana and Yagami need to kiss.

As for the game,

>!

|| I'm in Chapter 7, so I don't want to talk about it yet and put up some conclusions because I need to explore more things. There are things I don't enjoy (skateboard) and things I find fun (the mystery club, the bullying subplot is really well-done, and I think it's the greatest so far I've seen alongside the arc in _March comes in like a lion_), while other mechanics have been surprisingly fun while challenging (the three styles and the need to manuever through the styles depending on the enemies, the snake style is really cool to play at).||

@“穎”#p129471 aha, thank you! that makes so much sense now.

lost judgement rules, all the school stuff is so good and there's such a wild variety of things there

I'm in mother 3 still and >!the ultimate chimera thing got loose in the lab and it's legit freaky and creepy, love it. love that I'm able to feel all these feelings off a gba game!<

@“phylaxis”#p129674 lost judgement rules, all the school stuff is so good and there’s such a wild variety of things there

I don't know how it was going to end, and I was a victim of bullying so I was kind of intrigued at how they would portray this, but damn, they did it really well and were very thoughtful about what to portray, specially towards the end. Also, I agree with you not only on the school stuff, but I also think that finding the squirrels was a fun gimmick that brought me some nostalgia. I was surprised because I wanted to play Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood and just wanted to take a little peek to play this, but I went and played it almost non-stop. Maybe this is my favorite RGG game so far.

the kaito files dlc is really chill too, his battle style is super super fun

@“phylaxis”#p129710 Don‘t tempt me. The game is on discount and I’ve been hearing good things about it. The worst is I have the Deconstructeam ready to go and then AC6 coming up.

to be fair you can beat the whole thing in like 8 hours

@“HyggeState”#p129736 The Machine Games levels (I forget what they are called on the menu) do a great job of bringing a Quake 1 vibe to Quake II.

Replaying Alan Wake. I‘m at Hartman’s clinic, and I happened to linger by the table where the Anderson brothers are talking (mostly because one of them was playing with a squeaky hammer toy and my dog suddenly got really interested in it). Anyway, one of them refers to their farm as a Place of Power! I don‘t think they meant it as a full on Proper Noun at the time but it’s cool that some of Control's lore was seeded all the way back in this game, intentionally or not

@“tomjonjon”#p129737 call of the machine (get it?)

i just finished that expansion myself and had a great time. the secret level where >!the lights keep going out!< and later >!when mutants chase you in the dark!< felt more like horror than the big shooty game i was really playing. i'm glad they remastered this because i tried playing the original thru game pass but i couldn't enjoy it, UI was too small and i wasn't able to get it looking right.

i'm gonna be playing the rest soon, i don't see myself getting tired as quickly as with quake 1.

@"GigaSlime"#p129784 they probably referred to alan wake when creating the lore in control, so i wouldn't put it past them

mother 3:

>!

hahahahahah the mole cricket map made me cackle out loud

>! it doesn't match up with anything hahahha

ohhhhh >!hahaha it's every floor superimposed over each other lol!<

>!omg I made it thru and the winter zone music from the first mother game :sob::sob::sob:!<

@“phylaxis”#p129722 Well, I would buy and play later, I guess xD

@“yeso”#p129209 I haven‘t!

But it’s definitely on the list.

Reel Fishing is very up my alley.
