Persona wanted me to go to bed so bad
Smash TV is good before you start playing.
i’ve only played ff14 since the ARR redoings but i didn’t find it that bad at all? like it was kinda slow or whatever but i dunno, it was chill and kinda led me through learning the game and meeting the characters and seeing all the places i’d go. the game keeps getting better for sure after that, though. (i stopped playing a couple years ago after beating stormblood and part of me wants to get back into it cuz i was so into the dang plot etc but there’s no way i’d remember any of the details at this point and there’s even more no of a way that i’d restart the game as a refresher, unfortunately)
i have only ever played arr and loved it all the way through. in fact the transition to stormblood was so jarring it kinda knocked me out of it and i haven’t returned lol
I think they know that people come in and out of FFXIV, and that the plot is being iterated on in a sort of serial fashion often with months or years in between plot developments, so you get important plot stuff repeated and reminded to you as needed. Not being able to remember shit is of little consequence to picking FFXIV back up imo.
It kinda takes some cues from, like, long ass shounen in that regard. If something important is about to be referenced, you’ll get a little flashback sequence or someone will chime in as a helpful audience surrogate. It never intentionally keeps you in the dark on the importance of something if it occurred two expansions ago.
Stormblood is the best expansion, plot wise, imo
GOD HAND is probably good within 2-3 seconds, if you skip the 30 second opening cutscene. Its true greatness can be understood the moment you land your very first Barrel Roll Kick, which a reasonably experienced action game player can surely achieve within 3-5 minutes of play.
yeah, not saying it was bad, more so i just wasn’t ready for it. always meant to jump in again.
Yeah I didn’t really want to get into it but I loved A Realm Reborn. I think skipping it would be a huge mistake. The patch quests that lead into Heavensward are quite boring but no one’s going to stop there. That’s the only real slog part of the game.
Shadowbringers is the best expansion though.
Even I, as the person who just said Stormblood is the best one, can acknowledge Shadowbringers was, like, the best executed one, by a decently observable margin. My love for Stormblood is personal
damn i might be buying ffxiv to play on the deck
One thing we can definitively say is that Stormblood is the best expansion to Final Fantasy XIV that was cross promoted during a Wrestlemania
@KingTubb I’m not some stickler so I added your entry cause I’m guessing there was good reason for such a specific time. If I end up getting a bunch of very specific times though I’m going to round them for simplicity. On a similar point, I’m also not ignoring anyone’s suggestions if they’re not formatted, but if I don’t see them, it’s gonna happen.
@captain I was thinking more about it and just cause I don’t get what the problem is doesn’t mean it isn’t a thing. If you have suggestions for concise things to name the thread/table headers, that are clearer I can put them in.
so this comment made me reboot the game up for the first time in a while last night and i got to “a cool part” princess jrpg battle that made me smile. i think it was about 2 hours in as @Bbtone said.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard – 10-12 hours
Indeed there is. That game is completely meh until the 22 minute mark, on the dot.
Unless you’re me, someone who spent about half an hour, or the whole early game talking to people before going into the museum, and dying through misadventure before the thing actually starts. You just get a “You Are Dead” screen. I put the game down and was like, “huh, I’ll come back to this later I guess.”
We’re actually two peas in a pod. I did the same thing lol.
BUT I like pointing to the “thing” that’s supposed to happen at the 22 minute mark as what makes it good. It might take you an hour to get there, or several, or you might have fun just bopping around the home town!
Outerwilds is the only game I could think of that I’ve played that has a very specific reveal at a very specific time that kicks the game so hard it goes from “Oh…” to “OOOOHHHH”.
I also didn’t have any idea what outerwilds really is when I played it, so this really stuck with me.
I swear I watched this Wrestlemania, but I can’t remember the New Day’s entrance at all. Shane vs. AJ Styles must’ve been so bad that it vaporized this memory from existence. Or when Bray attempted to cast Phantasmal Force on Randy and failed.
Here are my goofy ideas
How Long To Start
Are We There Yet
Just a suggestion! You are the arbiter of this thread and this may just be my personal hangup.
[Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP) - 15 hours]
I had time this weekend to sit down with Ys X … and I can say it starts getting good in the middle of Chapter 3 (around hour 5) when you get control of your ship to do can do side objectives and go to Termina island! You get to meet the villains and start to understanding what some of the mysteries are all about. On hard mode the battles are paced much better now. In the first couple chapters I would either breeze through or get totally punished without being able to grasp what I was supposed to be doing. Now I am understanding the battle system and can see the depth to it.
Thanks @sabertoothalex and @Karasu for encouraging me to push through!
