Ask Me About DC Comics

@“deepspacefine”#p116010 If you're in a country which supports it, check out https://www.dcuniverseinfinite.com/.

@“Jaffe”#p116011 interesting! The only GL arcs I think I‘ve read were Emerald Dawn and Emerald Twilight, when my older brother who is a big DC nerd wanted to show me how bad Ron Marz’s writing was and what DC did to Hal Jordan.

@“connrrr”#p116019 I think Ron Marz‘s writing, while it certainly has some early shortcomings, is unfairly maligned. He had some interesting ideas, and Kyle Rayner has since become a fan favorite. I think it’s a case of old readers rejecting the new.

looking into the history of The Question, and if I understand correctly, it appears he was retconned into being a Polish guy

@“yeso”#p116039 woke-washing strikes again!

@“yeso”#p116039 He was given an Eastern European name, Charles Victor Szasz, which he changed to Vic Sage when he got into broadcasting. But according to Helltown, Denny's novelization of his Question run, he was named after a priest at the orphanage where he was found abandoned. Nobody knows where he really comes from.

seems more likely than not that he's Polish. And the fact that The Question is now Latina points to DC wanting to continue with a nonwhite character. Which is of course worthy of praise

@“yeso”#p116049 I‘d be more excited about Renee Montoya if she wasn’t a cop, but that's just me.

@“Jaffe”#p115989 Read the first few issues of Generation Lost and I'm having a great time. Thanks for the recommendations!

Jaffe who in your view are the best cartoonists DC has employed? Overall quality of the books aside, which are the best from a pure drawing POV

solid recommendations here!

okok i‘m a big green lantern fan who fell off after johns had too many events - did i miss out, how was grant’s run? any lesser known GL arcs you'd recommend?

also your artist shoutout list to the tune of ATCQ was fantastic. is there a dream creative team you'd have liked to see on a certain book that we never got?

If you like Grant Morrison's stuff, then The Green Lantern is another chapter of that overarching meta-work that they've been doing since Animal Man. Personally, I love Robert Venditti's Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, and Sam Humphries' Green Lanterns made me fall in love with Jessica Cruz. A little before that, Charles Soule had a very entertaining run on Red Lanterns. 2016-2018 was a great time for GL.

Dwayne McDuffie, Darwyn Cooke, The Question.

Is there a good way to look at a full release schedule? I generally see what new books are coming as they‘re added to the Apple Books store for pre-order. I also peek at the monthly DC Connect issues and I just found this Wikipedia page. I just feel like I don’t have a good pulse on what's happening like I used to.

@“dracula”#p121626 Solicits are always published 3 months prior to release. Personally I just google “September 2023 DC Solicits” if I want to see them for that month. I usually get a Newsarama link.

If you were going to make an Insert Credit Show about dc comics (instead of Sega/NEC like the real Insert Credit), who would be your favorite guest panalists (the people too mainstream to be on all the time, but still fun and hip with the vibe)?
