In terms of the traditional 1 2 3 4s screamed at the beginning of a song, I feel like Guitar Wolf has a good distinctive one:
This is one of the songs that most made me want to learn Japanese. I wanted to know why this sensei is the one he likes! It seems to skip the three though:
I guess this is the best Beatles 1 2 3 4:
A video game 1 2 3 4:
And that song made me think of this song, but unfortunately it’s just a 1 2:
This one is a bit of a rule bend bit I think it’s an interesting take on this theme…
I don’t shut up about this band, I know, but this song alternates between 4/4 and 7/8 and they go “1 2 3” instead of “1 2 3 4” and I just think it’s really neat.
(edit from the future: this used to be a link to a Pantera clip, posted before I was aware of just how bad they were (full-on white supremecy). I no longer wish to have a post linking to a clip of theirs.)
What springs to mind is the first song in Macross Flashback 2012. It was also used as the ending credits song for Macross: Do You Remember Love and whenever I watch that movie I’m usually in tears by the time Minmay starts counting…
I also like 1960s rock and am pretty partial to Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs’ classic half-Spanish count in Wooly Bully
I have a very specific memory of a song where they start out saying onetwothreefour! as fast as possible and it has nothing to do with the beat, but I can’t place it. It was like… Coachwhips or Hospitals or something. Aaaaah
first heard this long long ago on some local radio dj’s “guess the theme” show when he was playing songs vaguely related to traffic (as in cars, not the band lol)
Suddenly remembered that dumb Anri song that starts with an immaculate 1 2 3 4:
I spent like 30 minutes trying to remember the name of the Leslie Cheung cover (which turns out to be “Sweet Forbidden Fruit”) hoping that it also started with the count. It doesn’t! But it’s got one in the middle of the song, so as far as I’m concerned it qualifies:
