Brandon Officially Made It

What Brandon would have thought of if someone said “breadtube” an hour ago before reading @azure’s post:

I at least didn’t know much of this, so thank you for the description here!

I think it has been well established that I grew up in California’s Bay Area under the care of hippie parents, so I definitely would not have thought of this! Until I was in middleschool I pretty much only knew about bread that looked like one of these two things.

I was aware of wonderbread as something that people with poor nutrition ate. I still have not seen one of those pillsbury tubes in person.

Wow, you’ve never even seen one of them in person?? How is that possible? Have you just never set foot into a large grocery store in the US? I was under the impression they were fairly ubiquitous in pretty much any full size national/regional supermarket style grocer, although, that is based on their ubiquity in Canadian full size national/regional supermarket style grocers.

Actually it’d be even cooler of you if you have been in a grocery store like that (because you have… right…) but your eyes have just always automatically glazed over them, like your visual cortex is just subconsciously shielding you from having to reckon with it all.

I suppose then in your case, as you’ve illustrated, a baguette is your breadtube (or, as the French say, “tube au pain”)

well I meant in person in use - I’m sure they’re at grocery stores but I probably just don’t register them at all. Grocery stores aren’t exactly gonna put this on the endcaps!

actually, in the rural south, I have seen these on endcaps, but mostly for biscuits.

Bread tube biscuits are a fine substitute if you can’t do it from scratch. Or as the top to a pot pie.

The baguette tube tho idk. Is there a baking thread?

I worked in a Wal-Mart in a previous life. I mean this one, just, you know, younger.

Pillsbury was one of the rare brands that had a 100% refund deal with Wal-Mart, meaning Wal-Mart wasn’t willing to buy their stock. I would end up having to count the whole row of Pillsbury crap that would never sell as it went past its date. Then I’d put it in the price gun so Pillsbury would refund us the stock we threw out.

I don’t think Pillsbury is the national brand it thinks it is.
