Ugh crap every time I have to drive out far in my car in a suit it‘s just exhausting and makes me want something bigger and comfier and damn maybe even an automatic. Don’t want to give up my FRS though unless it's for a GR86.
I hate cars but I love Kei Trucks
This is sick

I'm seeing kei trucks show up in Long Beach CA now. Yesterday I spotted a vintage Honda Acty motoring down Redondo Blvd. They are apparently road legal under a vintage car exemption (despite being right hand drive and having no airbags). https://www.economist.com/united-states/2023/04/20/rural-americans-are-importing-tiny-japanese-pickup-trucks
took me a minute to realize what side of the argument this guy was on. The dumbest shit.

I thought I clicked the Cats thread. I was excited to see 100 new posts about cats. Oh well
Is there anything better than seeing a cool car and not even knowing what it is?

What on earth is a rotary Shante? It kind of looks like an old Civic?
I looked it up afterwards and was surprised! Wow that thing is small, which I probably could have guessed by it being next to a tiny Toyota 800!
Today is a good car day got to go to the Japanese Classic Car Show in Long Beach for the first time since the pandemic, now watching FD Japan on youtube and the color commentator Nob Taniguchi is just cracking me up every time there‘s a break he’s like hey can we get the drone camera to go check out my car in the parking lot… plus we got a real crossover here, I have not kept up on WRC in a long time but apparently the reigning champion is the youngest to ever do it, Kalle Rovanpera, beat Colin McRae‘s record by like 5 years, and now he’s just having fun beating the pants off of people drifting in Japan

@“sixteen-bit”#p137955 that and the Toyota 2 door electric car look pretty good, I wonder if they will actually get made
I am a car idiot and I have a car problem. My car (2010 Toyota Yaris) has brake problems. I mean, the car still stops, but it doesn‘t stop very quickly or confidently. Sometimes, it makes weird noises. I took it to the Toyota people to check it and they said that both the front and rear brakes need replacing. He says the front brakes require “calipers, pads, rotors and shim kits,” and the rear require “shoes, drums, and spring kit.” All in all, it’s like $1800CAD pre-tax.
That's a whole lotta moolah, and this car only cost us like $2300 to begin with, so I don't really wanna do all that. I mean, would you do that on a car this old, with almost 300,000km on it, which I'm sure also has other issues besides this, although I don't know what exactly they are?
So, I'm thinking we should just put that $1800 toward a new car.
I've never actually sold a car before, so I don't know what's the best way to go about it. I've heard buying/selling privately is more lucrative, but it seems like a huge pain, and also I don't really wanna sell a car to someone when the brakes don't work. Are used car dealers really that bad or is it just movies like Matilda that have made me think they're gonna fill my car with sawdust or something? I just want an okay car that is hopefully another Yaris (with a manual transmission) and will cost, idk, like $5000 or something? Minus whatever they'll buy this one for (likely not much.) And also I'd like to get it done within the next week or so.
Any thoughts? Ideas? I'm pretty out of my element.
@“wickedcestus”#p138874 I went through a car scare last week, and I hate to be a negative voice, but it seems as though there‘s no really good choice! Fortunately my car has lived to drive another day, but it’s a 2005 Toyota Matrix, and I'm coming to terms with the idea that it might be better to replace it on my own terms, rather than when it becomes an emergency. But yeah, in your circumstance, I wonder if an $1800 repair on a $2300 car is worth it (it would probably be over my limit).
But wow, car prices are shockingly high (new and used, from what I've seen), and have accelerated in the last five years! There's also how it's really hard to find some models, period (in my case I was looking at Toyota hybrids, since most full electrics are impossible to find, and would require that I get my house's electrical panel redone to support plug in, on top of the cost of installing the plug). I'm not looking forward to replacing ours!
@“wickedcestus”#p138874 a Toyota dealership is probably going to be the most expensive place, you might be able to get the brakes done cheaper at a smaller independent shop. Brakes wear out on all cars, and all cars will eventually need to replace at least some brake parts.
New (to me) car time! Got this little fella to go along with my red Golf GTI. First car with a DSG, it’s real fun. Has a lot more herbs than my GTI.
Datass!

The Suzuki Jimny Looks Even Better As A Rally Legend
The spirit of the Lancia Delta Integrale and Renault 5 lives on with these two crossovers.
@“Karasu”#p138882 Hello fellow Matrix haver!! I have a 2009 that’s nearing 140k miles. Got it used almost 8 years ago. Been a great companion through many moves and long drives. Not the best car to actually drive but hasn’t done me wrong. It is getting to the point that service and repairs are costing a lil too much compared to what the car is worth so I am similarly looking to probably buy my first Brand New car in the next year.
My choice right now is the upcoming Civic hatchback hybrid. They still have to show the thing but Honda is saying it’ll be out in 2024.
@“sabertoothalex”#p146106 it’s been tough with my Matrix, but it’s survived yet again, somehow, and it’s running really well. So I guess I will try and squeeze one more year out of it!
I had been looking at new cars, and both the Corolla and Camry hybrids looked really good (if not especially exciting— although I don’t need exciting), but… after I did that last post and looked into getting something new, it turns out that both of these models, and most non-SUV, non-pickup truck vehicles in general, take almost a year to order? This might just be a Canada thing, or an Alberta thing, but it was kind of concerning, because it sounds as though I’d need to do a down payment and the just -wait- until the car eventually arrives, which would suck. Oh and also used cars are a real mixed bag in Edmonton because just about every one I looked at had visible rust but was still stupidly expensive. I’m still not sure what the best thing is! But for now the Matrix is still working.

@“thebryanjzx90”#p101368 this year's Auto Salon finally provided closure to the WEED saga. Here we see a video for the “Mclimb Weed Hilux Surf,” a Toyota truck completely unrelated to the WEED Mitsubishi Delicas of prior years. Meaning, Mclimb WEED is the name of the shop, or perhaps some kind of sub brand from the shop, and WEED was not some kind of trim level for the Delica. This ends a question that has stuck around in the back of my mind for years now, just enough to make me pay slightly more attention to videos popping up in my YouTube subscriptions this time of year, but not nearly enough to make me look up anything additional on any other websites.
Also it's completely off the rails and whatever this Mclimb shop does with their WEED cars doesn't work at all on the Hilux like it did on the Delicas.
