it is here, as far as i can tell. the other issue is that my housemate, who’s lived here for many years, is rather wary of the landlord and doesn’t want to get on his bad side.
well, he honestly hasn’t left the porch much since we started feeding him - when i fed him last night, i put the bowl down right in front of him and saw him start eating, then five minutes later i looked outside and the raccoon was there instead. i’ve noticed that he’s got some scratches on him so i think he’s tussling with the raccoons semi-frequently.
I would contact a local shelter and see if they can set you up with equipment or advice on putting together a feral cat house. Will help keep the little guy safe and warm at the very least
also, don’t know how ambitious your aims are with this cat, but you could try trapping him and getting him fixed. There may be a shelter or clinic that will lend you a trap and do the procedure for free
Since nobody else mentioned this I want to note that you should be sure this cat is indeed a stray before you try moving them anywhere. If you can catch them and take them to the shelter to check if they’re chipped, that’ll be a start. A lot of outdoor cats do wind up just spending time at multiple houses so you’ll wanna be sure it’s not somebody’s pet first.
update on the boy! thank you @connrrr@yeso@Karasu@exodus for the advice. i was doing some research on local shelters last night to see where i could reach out to, and through that i found out that he’s most likely a community cat - he’s got both his ears notched, so he’s definitely been through a tnr program already. tbd on whether or not he’ll be a house kitty, but what i was reading (sf spca website) recommended against bringing them in since they may not be great with indoor spaces.
which is sort of sad, because i was very enchanted with the idea of being his mom, but instead i will settle for being his friend who feeds him whenever he comes around! he’s gotten so friendly with me, it’s a total reversal from how he was with me like… 2 months ago. it’s nice to just hang out on the porch with him.
