Found a stray cat on my apartment buildings porch this afternoon, but for some reason no shelters are open after 4/5PM around here. So we have a friend in the office with us tonight and hope we can get her chip checked and safe in the morning. Would love to keep her but we already have 3 :( she’s very friendly, just hungry, dirty, and small. Poor girl.

there’s a cat who hangs out on the back porch of our apartment - i’ve lived here for a year, and apparently he’s been around since before i moved in. he’s been pretty skittish but i swore that i would befriend him. last week, lo and behold, i met my goal!

we can’t take him in at this apartment (no pets allowed and the landlord lives upstairs so it wouldn’t be very feasible to hide him, and one of our frequent visitor friends is very allergic) but i was thinking of seeing if my partner could take him in. does anyone have any tips, or know what we should do?

update: my housemate and i have been leaving food and water out for him. i just checked the back porch and discovered a big ol raccoon eating his food. anyone have any tips on keeping raccoons away?

The only thing I can think is that raccoons are mostly nocturnal while cats are crepuscular so I would try to feed him at a different time of day, maybe early in the morning.

Also, I’m sorry I didn’t reply to your earlier post with some encouragement even if I didn’t have any advice at the time. Here in Ontario no pets clauses are quote “void” and unenforceable. Do you know if a clause like that is for sure legal where you live?

I think your best bet might be to feed him only when he shows up, rather than leaving food down. I can’t think of a single way you could keep the raccoon (and all kinds of other wildlife) from the food if it’s left out. Water is probably fine, but raccoons are also really messy with water so you probably need to change it daily to be sure it’s safe for him to drink.
