@captain has made some extremely high-quality additions

@ârootfifthoctaveâ#p93966 a bit generous to call what is almost definitely a tambourine âsleigh bellsâ on that stooges song or, show me to the disinformation thread at once!
As something of a literal expert in this topic (I rarely if ever actually think about it because I only use it to make appeals to authority during internet discussions, but I got a Masters in Music Composition lmao), my ruling here after putting on my ATH-M50s and listening carefully is:
If sleigh bells in a recording studio sounds weird, any self respecting percussionist would have [one of these _Dark Souls_-ass one handed mace format sleigh bell type dealies,](https://www.long-mcquade.com/departments/1666/Drums/Sleigh_Bells_and_Hand_Bells.htm) if for no other reason than to always know they have one when they're doing sessionals during the Christmas Pops concert season. If you thought guitar guys love their gear collections, you should meet percussionists. I had a roommate who was a really intense percussion guy, he had all sorts of fun toys. I'm almost certain he had one of those. So, it's only a minor stretch to think there'd be sleigh bells hanging around in a recording studio at some point.
Oh shit, the personnel listing on the song's wikipedia page has John Cale playing _sleigh bells!_
@âpasquinelliâ#p94055 thx pq
suppose i ought to share in the thread a little
the other day pasquinelli posted [swing slow](https://forums.insertcredit.com/d/534-show-me-anything/1481) so i had to get our lady [miharu koshi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJ1aQriM29c) in there. what is it about loungey, slow-ish jazz-ish tunes that get the christmas blood flowing?
we've got the nutcracker, which made me consider tchaikovsky, which brought back memories of playing [serenade for strings](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zpl7ffUqyYw) in school, and the spirit of christmas was within me
[this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzEVtDO2r44) and [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qoa83DR2zhc) and [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnRRWziGx3o&list=PL4NDTTkOXRtLFIwlcThP4f2aJVSJG8YSl&index=20) make me feel like i'm looking at snow in a field at night
i played kingdom hearts one time in my life, when i was 23, in the summer, and don't know much about hikaru utada. even so, i tell you, [simple and clean](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1nDzB1P8GM) is a christmas song
@Gaagaagiins @rootfifthoctave I'm never wrong when it comes to Yuletide
@âcaptainâ#p94061 i was thinking of adding her song BAD MODE, but upon listening, there are 3<x<6 seconds of it that give me that christmas vibe, and it's when some horns pop in feeling a bit jazzy.
***edit*** my wife was listening to the _kingdom hearts_ and _kingdom hearts 2_ soundtracks, and though she wasn't into them, i think i might have to add the [traverse town theme from 1](https://youtu.be/mmiWjG0N21w) and the [twilight town theme from 2](https://youtu.be/ikPt771hOq8).

adding her song BAD MODE
yes
I heard I Believe in Miracles by The Jackson Sisters on the radio a few days ago and despite knowing a cover in a DDR game for years, it seemed extremely fresh and made me think âoh, this is a not-Christmas Christmas songâ
@âconnrrrâ#p94705 https://youtu.be/4s1DDt7a9v8
Fun fact: this was the sole track composed by nobuo uematsu for this game

I never caught any of the seasonal themes for 3ds eshop. I'm familiar enough with the original theme though. This is about as christmas not christmas as it gets eh?
@âtreefroggyâ#p94994 that sound effect right at the beginning, it awakens a forgotten memory inside me.
Yo I want to reiterate how into T-Square Iâve gotten. Iâve been devouring them album by album lately (every one of which seems to be 9 songs long, 3x3 like a⌠square??) and each one is so reliably upbeat and cheerful. Just what I've needed. Thanks a lot!!
i'm _not_ adding this song. it is _not_[^1] christmas music that is not christmas music, but it's a fun novelty dug up by _freaks of all music_.
[^1]: technically, christmas isn't mentioned in the name or the lyrics, but that only highlights the inadequecy of the rule.

Similarly this playlist also got me listening to the new Utada album @"captain"#p94151, it's awesome. Neo The World Ends With You has some good tunes but also a frustrating tendency to play only 2-3 of them during certain (lengthy) chapters. Thankfully it's one of the PS4 games that lets you play Spotify while the game is running. BAD MODE goes well with it
To me this is the ultimate Christmas VGM. My sister and I got Animal Crossing: City Folk as a Christmas gift back when it first came out and some way or another, 2 in the morning was the first opportunity we had to play it. I guess we were busy with family stuff until then. I remember us sitting on our grandmaâs spare bed and squinting down at this tiny CRT that must have been about 8 inches with this music coming out of the speakers. I remember the dark blue lighting during the gameâs nighttime feeling so right and so comforting in that moment. Musically, there are aspects of this that do feel a little traditionally âChristmas-yâ with its instrumentation and harmonies, so maybe other people will be able to feel the Christmas spirit in it as well, but for me it's impossible to disconnect from that memory.

@âFunbilâ#p96220 i think it was the summer before my daughter started kindergarten that we went to a liquidation at a blockbuster and she picked up that game for maybe a buck or two. everybody ended up getting into it, and she's basically a lifelong fan of animal crossingâyou can tell by how she complains about new horizons.
anyway, even though she got it in summertime, she still added two long (also, too long imho) compilations of _animal crossing_ music to the playlist.~~christmas~~
i've got this idea that every medium has some aspect of life that it's analogous to. music, film, storytelling, etc. are analogues to the unfolding sense of time; the visual arts, otoh, are analogues to the instantaneous present; and videogames are the sense of a place. even though i first heard _animal crossing_'s music during the summer, _animal crossing_ is a place that feels like christmas, and the music is perfect for it.
When I was young, I used to make christmas-themed mixtapes of video game music. Might go through them and see what still works this christmas.
Anyway, I always like listening to this in December:

Added âBelieverâ by John Maus. Not sure why it feels âchristmas not christmas.â Maybe the fuzz reminds me of snow? Maybe the refrain of âThey call me the believerâ ties in with the faith/magical element of Christmas? Maybe the nostalgic vibe of the track sends me back to 80s and 90s Christmases?
Not sure, but either way, I think this is a beautiful song.
