controller talk

@“rejj”#p136849 using your ring finger is the “stick clicking” of paddles. I'm a big middle finger guy, so I bind more-frequent inputs to top paddle.

@“GigaSlime”#p136670 I have a similar issue. My xbox wireless dongle works flawlessly with my pc but on the MiSTer the controller only connects like 30% of the time. I end up using it wired most of the time because of that

My perfect controller? Well, it's the steam deck but as an individual unit. Steam Controller 2 please Valve!

I play so many games where those trackpads come in so handy. Building your own radial menus is so freaking underrated.

Beyond that, I would like an Elite Series 2 with more replaceable parts, a hexagonal gated left stick (think gamecube plastic hexagon) and uhhh a dpad that wasn't so clicky. Wish it was more like the deck in that regard.

The DualShock 4 would be perfect if only it could hold a charge.

@“穴”#p137077 I use an 8bitdo dongle for xbox controllers

@connrrr 8bitdo pro 2 is closest to DS4 in my opinion

Mouse talk.

Sadly the Mega Drive and Nintendo 64 mice are missing. But nice design comparison; I like how they each represent their console’s respective design philosophy quite well.

Got the GC Blue retro adapter. Combined with the NSO genesis controller. Gonna remap and hit some Golden Sun 2 after this.

[edit]

OK, this thing rules. It connects quickly to paired devices.

remapping works seemingly great! I like how relatively easy it is [for me]. Golden Sun 2 feels great on the Saturn pad, and I mapped it with similar controls to Shining Force which is something I’ve always wanted to do!

Though it seems like even though I’m able to map the “share” and “home” buttons specifically on the NSO pad (it’s on the list on the utility!), it doesn’t seem to work after the fact. The other remaps do though, so I should be ok with just one shoulder button (MODE).

[EDIT2] SUPER MONKEY BALL JR. With SEGA controller just MAKES SENSE… like a SUPER MONKEY BALL released on SATURN or MEGA DRIVE or 32X that never happened!!

@“◉◉maru”#p137503 I think about this alot. I want to use mice on all the consoles. SNES is the most common, there‘s even aftermarket ones now. PS and N64 deserve to have at least better DIY solutions. Saturn is the one I didn’t think about much before now!

N64 mouse I would get a lot more use out of than anyone thinks. The Mario Artist Polygon and other Suites are really awesome and deserving of time.

Not sure what to make of this.

Maybe I should have dug up the old "little brother controllers" thread instead. At least, it’s a good way to play… Tekken Dark Resurrection’s PSP port… seemingly running on an Android emulator… On your TV? … Through the Switch?… I guess?

@“treefroggy”#p137952 Saturn is the one I didn’t think about much before now!

The Shuttle Mouse is a pretty good investment as the Saturn hosts many adventure games, visual novels, point & click-style puzzle games, strategy games and even several gun shooting games that can be played with the mouse (as a replacement for the light gun).

The main disappointment in the Saturn software library is that Warcraft II does not support the Shuttle Mouse. But Panzer Dragoon Zwei does!

@“◉◉maru”#p137966 setting aside everything else that can be said about that controller, it is committing the cardinal sin of placing the R button further left than the L button. Everything else seems more like an interesting choice rather than a dumb one!… well that row of “function keys” including Z's is also questionable.

... Does the Shuttle Mouse make *DES CRIMSON* a good game?

@“treefroggy”#p137970 It’s the least of the game’s issues, but Death Crimson is one of the few light gun games not compatible with the Shuttle Mouse.

[Here is a comprehensive list of compatible games](https://segaretro.org/Shuttle_Mouse) which is pretty thorough, at first glance.

The other glaring compatibility omission is Sunsoft’s port of MYST, although that is probably due to the game releasing for the console’s launch, as I had surmised [in this old post.](https://forums.insertcredit.com/d/610-last-letter-game-games-in-your-collection/1149)

@“◉◉maru”#p137966 Hillbilly Cat is a heck of a name for a video game controller.

To use an N64 controller while playing Animal Crossing for Nintendo GameCube using the control scheme from Doubutsu no Mori for N64:

A - A

B - B

C Buttons - C Stick

L - Z

R - X

Z - L

D pad - used only for NES games

If you plan on typing and switching keyboard you may want to map R to something (easy for me since I’m using an NSO N64 controller with many extra buttons) (this is also needed to exit NES games I think)

I find it very comfortable to mainly use the c-buttons for menuing and this is how I will be playing the game whenever I pick it up.

Controller factory. Pace looks pretty relaxed so that's nice.

@“treefroggy”#p131013 it’s an act of deliberate resistance and contradiction to mod out XBOX buttons in games, and use anything besides an Xbox pad to play on PC.

I'm feeling this now. I've been using the 8bitdo SFC Pro for a while, but unless you know where the Xbox buttons are supposed to be , it can be somewhat confusing. Especially for my kids. Time to look for a more appropriate controller for them!

@“hellomrkearns”#p148098 I got an Xbox series S controller new for $25. Highly recommend for pc gaming. Pretend it’s a SEGA. For 2D stuff I use a retro-bit Saturn pad. Get yourself a SEGA style controller like the new retro-but Saturn pro with the dual analog controls. The buttons map to Xbox layout much better. Before you get an 8bitdo or whatever controller for PC, I recommend an oem Xbox series controller for the oem quality.

@“◉◉maru”#p137966 I gotta know what's going on with the red ball on the back of that controller! It looks like a trackball!?

@“treefroggy”#p148102 Yeahhh the Xbox pad and that new Retro-Bit Saturn pad are my go-tos as well. I have one USB-C cable plugged into my PC that I just swap between them (and my arcade stick) and it is so nice

I like the xbox controller, but what I don‘t like is that windows broke the xbox wireles adapter with a certain update, and it disconnects like every 2 minutes. I’ve read dozens of people posting online about this issue and have found no solution. I‘ve been using it wired, but I don’t like having a big cable through the middle of my room. My current options to solve my problem are: 1) getting an 8 bit do 2.4 hz controlleror 2) gathering all my usb extensions in the hope I have like 7 meters of extension to pull off something like this.

It’s just a storing space for the optional arcade stick-like ball you can screw on top of the left stick (by removing the rubber nub resting on it).
