I probably won’t make up my mind in time, and perhaps my future self will thank me for saving the money when the economy collapses, but I’ve thought about upgrading my PC’s components so it’s ā€œWindows 11 readyā€ since Microsoft has decided to remove security support for 10 starting October 2025. However Windows 10 itself won’t tell me which components I need to upgrade; it just links me to their horrendous documentation webpages. I hate Microsoft and America

Supposedly you will be able to purchase continued security support for $30 a year for up to 3 years. Thats my plan.

The other thing is the specific part holding most PC’s back is that the motherboard doesn’t have TPM 2.0. I’d do a little more research to double check but that’s generally what’s holding back so many devices from being upgraded.

Good call, yeah I’ll look into what’s up with my motherboard. Thanks also for mentioning the $30 thing with 10, I’m considering that too but it also rankles to have to pay again for an OS I already hate. I usually like tinkering with stuff but I find that Microsoft shit in particular really drains me of motivation, probably because I have to deal with their software constantly at work

Not to be that gal but Steam runs real well on Linux these days. Obviously a steep learning curve regardless, but I’ve switched my laptop and desktop over to Linux for the first time in over a decade in anticipation of Windows 10 EoL and I’ve been actually enjoying my computer for once

I also thought about saying this but resisted to also not be that gal, but now we got strenght in numbers. Linux is an excellent experience on desktop for most people right now. Does 99% of what most people will want to do with windows without a hitch. Also switched my desktop and laptop to Linux and couldn’t be happier.

Love the idea of a Linux conversation happening with a 10 minute post cooldown

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is getting dismantled. There’s a link to an interactive site in the article where you can see what’s been awarded grants for the past several years in your state. At least for me, it’s been a crucial donor to many of the local places that help spread joy, community and knowledge in this city.

What linux distro do you use?

Not that anything matters, but I’m curious and not a lawyer. Is it libel for the government to say somebody murdered someone else if they haven’t been convicted?

Rergadless, pretty interesting statement to make considering that violent crime has dropped significantly in my lifetime , but it looks like 8% of Americans are in medical debt. I’m in medical debt, and really should get an MRI but can’t really afford it.

What I’m saying is, not all violence is done with a gun.

I’ve installed Ubuntu on my old laptops before but mostly just to mess around with coding projects and it’s been a long time. I might switch my desktop over to something like Mint once I get a new one and see how I like it.
