I installed my first mod for DQ11, to replace the ugly-ass PC button tool tips. Worst part of gaming on PC now is everything uses the most ugly button tool tips based on xbox controllers. yuck!
Also, I didn‘t realize that when Definitive Edition was ported to PC, it used the lesser-fidelity assets of the switch version, meaning definitive edition has worse graphics than the original version, which was based on the PS4 release. This is common with PC ports, but jeez. The mod that fixes this, actually causes a ton of issues. I’m on an underpowered PC already so it doesn‘t matter actually. Just, damn. This is why I just play retro games on original hardware most of the time. Anyways, I joined the Dragon Quest XI modding discord. There’s also a mod I'm interested in which replaces spell/enemy names with their counterparts from earlier games, which make more sense to me. A full delocalization would be nice too.
I also forgot about the 3DS version. DQ11 has so many different version and graphical options, it's crazy.
This one got me…. I mean I figured as much, but why you gotta rub it in like that?? This little disclaimer was conspicuously absent for the weird chibi 「オフライン」version….
me just watching this stream grinning like a moron while horii pulls a cord to reveal the dragon quest 35th anniversary banner. nodding as he presents the slime button up. tapping my foot to the pleasant soft jazz soundtrack. happy
Love the stream. Wish there was more than just the logo for DQXII but I suppose it's far from ready since Horii alluded to changing the battle system.
English-speaking fans need to stop whining about the event not catering to fans outside of Japan. Dragon Quest is a Japan-centric brand focusing on its core audience first. We should be happy that there's a growing focus on worldwide release.
@goonbag#31642 sounds like octopath didn't agree with you! never played but i did download the demo the other day and messed with it for a few min. i like the music!
don‘t really like the tilt shift lego set look. Not that it looks bad, just that it makes everything one degree more artificial, which again isn’t bad, but it sort of puts the brakes on imagination-range and makes everything seem small and toy-like. One of the most enjoyable aspects of 8/16 bit jrpgs was how atmospheric and huge they could feel. The dq games in particular were great at this. So anyway that‘s my tortured reasoning for why I don’t like the visual style choice. Same problem (maybe I‘m the only weirdo who feels this way) with the link’s awakening switch vers
I think the handwringing about DQXII being more “adult” is kinda silly as that doesn't preclude it from having whimsical stuff in it too. I mostly just trust them to make something good!
@yeso#31702 I generally think the 2D-HD stuff looks good, and a toy-like appearance can work depending on the game but....I do agree that there's just something off about it. It's this weird half step between styles that yeah has cool particle effects and all that but it still being sprite based causes this weird clash that doesn't feel aesthetically all the way there. Link's Awakening works more for me because it's not trying to mash together disparate things, it's just going for something wholly different. And not liking that is of course totally cool! But it's at least committing.
