I haven’t tried playing games while on my exercise bike! Not sure why, really. This is a good idea, and I will try it out. Maybe with some ridge racer 6, hmm.

anyone got reccs for some racing games to put on my ps3? i guess ps1/2/3 all would be fine. i think i prefer if the vibe is more like, Locations than Racetracks if that makes sense? like i used to play a lot of gran turismo 1 but i remember the racetracks feeling really samey and prefer being in civilization or whatever. but doesn’t need to be “open world” or whatever. i just wanna be able to drive through a city or along a beach like in outrun or whatever.
bonus points for lots of car options and double bonus points for cool music

Have you checked out Burnout Paradise?? Seems to be maybe exactly what you’re looking for. Haven’t played it in forever but I had tons of fun with it back in the day.

i think i long for the gameplay of a gran turismo but with more fun locations haha.

There is, of course, Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast.
I remember having a fun time with Test Drive Unlimited at the time. I can’t recall much about Test Drive Unlimited 2 but I think I also played that.
No good for your PS2/3 requirement, but the Forza Horizon games are essentially exactly this.
Need for Speed: Underground and Most Wanted were kinda fun, before that entire series over-did itself.

Well i have a ps4 as well, but my ps3 is hacked so it’s slightly easier to try stuff out there lol. but yeah still forza games are out cause i’m a sony pony or whatever 
most ps3 games, you can just mute the in-game music and play mp3s from the system memory. we did this with wipeout HD and motorstorm all the time! PS3 has a good Daytona and i have recently been enjoying NFS Hot Pursuit. that one has more than a little bit of the Outrun-y/GTAV sense of “place” in that it’s trying to do a west coast US thing.

yeah i just know not ALL games have the option to lose hte music but keep sfx, and i wouldnt mind some new-to-me driving music :)

I recently got the Japanese release of Enthusia Professional Racing (which I had no idea of in its time). Awesome packaging with a landscape orientation manual and foldout poster of Nurburgring annotated by aged Japanese racers. Main thoughts:
- Good lord Konami was gunning hard at GT4
- Early 2000s Konami was quite a thing
- This opening is just tremendous.

I know this is the car game thread but this guy parks his immaculate 5th gen prelude down the road and I walk past every day dropping my kid off to school and like is there a better looking car? He’s since has the bonnet fixed,:

Tokyo Xtreme Racer announcement (and me discovering the series) made me start playing the first game for SNES and REALLY enjoying it. I’ll write about it in a bit but in the meantime…
Whats the closest thing I could buy for the xbox right now?
Looking for japanese driving vibes, ideally japanese developed but I’ll keep it open. Racing lagoon, option tunning car battle 2, even gran turismo that is not the same but has a little bit of that (or had)
EDIT: I may be asking for an imposible thing but I’m interesed in the closest thing even if its way off

On Xbox 360 there is Import Tuner Challenge which was published by Ubisoft but developed by Genki, so it’s got some pedigree, if you need your fix.
It’s easier than the other TXR games, but I don’t know, that really helped the game feel very chill. And it being the only HD version of the game until recently, excellent atmosphere. Was this really the last game in the series before it went on break until this recent release?

I’m happy to report that the new Tokyo Xtreme Racer rules and also runs without any trouble using Whisky on macOS. I’m so stoked this series is back.
