Also checked out the new Tokyo Extreme Racer today. So much fun and as always my favorite parts of these kinds of games is the livery editing.

Basically. There was a mobile game called Shutokou Battle Xtreme that was only available in Japan. There have been Wangan Midnight games as well, but those are a bit different.

I looked up a few reddit threads and looks like it works with lowered settings for now. Not sure how much room there is for optimization over time though.

I can deal with lower settings as long as it stays at 60 fps.

Thanks to the above vid, went ahead and got it. Not sure if the Deck auto adjusts any settings, but it’s working just fine straight away for me without manually adjusting anything. I haven’t tracked the fps yet, but haven’t noticed any significant stutters or visual problems at all.
Actually pretty surprised how smooth it looks and plays!
Gonna be a good time. Not familiar with this series. But it’s bringing back feelings from my NFS Underground days.

Yeah. Out of the box on PC, it just auto set everything to the lowest settings for me. you might even be able to boost them a bit.
Also I did a bit of research looking at old reviews to show why it’s so great the series has come back after very little positive critical reception.

I got that Tokyo Xtreme Racer (I keep wanting to call it tokyo mirage racer) and it’s great!! Love that it’s just about driving on highways at night in traffic. It seems like the cars you unlock really matter too, I am definitely growing attached to my Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX 3door '87. The characters and writing is offbeat in a fun way too. I’m enjoying manual driving, its a nice relaxing time.
I felt my soul tremble while playing!!

Yay finally got to play it just had to buy an entirely new PC to do it.
It’s not often that I get to play a game I’ve been thinking about for 20 years! And so far it’s pretty much exactly what I like!

Wreckfest is such a sleeper. It’s a really competent b-game – I wish they could afford some music and car licenses (a pipe dream as companies don’t want their stuff destroyed on screen, FOR SOME REASON), but it’s such a solid feeling game. I paid for it and am happy, but it gets a big Game Pass rec for dumb weekend fun or anyone who just wants to play a car game and dissociate

I’m enjoying the fact that the cars aren’t branded - I feel it would sully the vibe. I play online with friends often and it is a blast. Few rounds of wrecking before playing something else.

yeah, I could see that sort of corporate lean-in giving it the off-putting sort of Imagine Dragons live at the Crypto dot com Arena atmosphere that Forza Horizons has. something about Wreckfest gives me an early aughts xtreme sports game feeling, which is what has me imagining a real-bands soundtrack and branded gear, but its Finnish lens on tacky Americana also lends it a unique vibe that’s good on its own

due to extenuating personal circumstances I have ordered a use PS5 online (need that Monster Hunter). I’m kind of curious about Gran Turismo 7 but I’ve never really played any Gran Turismos or never been big into racing games in general. how beginner-friendly is it? I imagine it’s fairly technical/sim-like.
Naaah, Gran Turismo is more technical than, say, Ridge Racer, but it’s not a proper simulator. I think including an ‘arcade mode’ is a clever way for them to adjust your perception (if there’s an arcade mode, then the other mode must be the ‘serious’ mode), but the non-arcade mode is still a simplistic, videogamey experience.
