Ep. 203 - Tomb of the Unknown Gamer, with Mathew Kumar and Liz Ryerson

@chazumaru

@exodus

For question number 2:

PONG

We have some demographics in common, perhaps surprisingly, but we sure don’t look the same and I find it slightly amusing that anyone would have this in mind from only audio considering I feel like we sound so different

ā€œSpanish Pouchā€ is from Henry IV, Part I (shakespeare). and it refers to someone who wears prententious clothes. I stand by my research

I enjoy Alex’s puns so much that I sometimes anticipate possible Alex moments, which never come to fruition. His comedy is excellent, while all I could think of was describing the multiplication rap as ā€˜good times’.

@docky CRYPTID-currency

My favorite part Jaffe was how you were so proud of this joke that I had been seeing all over twitter for a couple months. I’m sure you didn’t know that though! Also amusing is how almost everyone tweeting about cryptid currency is like ā€œcome on guys retweet this more, it’s really funnyā€ as though nobody else had thought of it.

it seems everyone who comes up with this joke is very proud of it! and I’ll admit I was disappointed yesterday to discover that I wasn’t the first to say ā€œI’m still jenny from the blockchainā€

the way to make defending better in any game is Knockback. the parry in soulcalibur was one of the first gaming techniques i ā€œmasteredā€ and no one would play with me after that.

@esper Every Soul Calibur game they change the parry/counter/knockback mechanic. Some times it does or doesn’t take meter. Some time it’s a single button, some time it’s a chord. I think it was in 3 that it was better to block and never parry because blocking had better recovery. Namco just can’t decide how to make parrying"good" in that series.

I actually only have 1 cent instead of the typical 2 to add to this episode, but hereā€˜s that pathetic little cent anyways:

I play free to play games sometimes, but I never spend money. The grind of getting that in game currency is kinda what I enjoy about them… I dunno, maybe it’s just the satisfaction of ā€˜ha! you want me to become an addict and spend loads of money on your gems, but I’m not! instead Iā€˜m… watching ads for you…’ Yeah, thatā€˜s why I only play ’em sometimes.

@NoJoTo Sort of same. I sometimes install the sort of trash that gets advertised to me out of morbid curiosity, especially for what seemed like that stretch of time especially from like 2018-now but maybe less so lately where mobile game ads were just straight up lying about the gameplay, all those stupid ā€œcanst thou solve this puzzle that clearly doesn’t have a solution and this ad is just compelling you to try the game to prove to yourself the ad sucksā€ games, all of these games with seemingly endless procedurally generated levels with no actual difficulty curve (or no actual difficulty), just to kind of see how much they suck or how disingenuous the ad is. It’s a good way to pass the time while on the shitter.

By the way while some games are clever enough to not work at all if you do this but you can stop ads using Airplane Mode hehe…

I too also like the idea of being a pro enough gamer to not have to spend money and still progress but I very quickly lose interest once I feel I’ve hit the point where the game isn’t playing anymore and is expecting me to pay money or have a crappy time. One of the few exceptions to this was Let It Die, which I for some reason did subject myself to well past that point because I really could eke out a bit of progress here and there.

Shin Megami Tensei on the PC Engine kind of flirted with what ya’ll were talking about in the ā€œTokyo Destiny Landā€ section with ā€œDemon Duckā€ & ā€œZombie Mouseā€ – I imagine a Merican version would kinda look like this:

@exodus I too would have been happier not knowing this

@Jaffe sorry ;_;

@exodus Whatever, even if the punchline has been done before, it’s never been made to that specific setup. The key was that I got it out of getting in-demand parts for a computer set-up, which are hard to find due to crypto-currency mining, and the microphone is called a Yeti. I had to fabricate none of the parts of that joke. Therefore mine was better

Also there's nothing wrong with doing a joke again! The real common factor is how proud everyone is for coming up with it (which I also understand). Btw my partner loves your jokes!! Just giving you The Business here (as we say in the business)

just gotta say: grimace is coming back in a big way this year

@dicegame my partner was thinking about grimace recently

You say that now but wait until Epic announce the latest Fortnite in-game event, the Cryptid-Currency Festival featuring Mystikal, Curren$y, Marshmello, Satoshi Nakamoto, and a real bigfoot.

My crypto joke that I'm too proud of is:

"did you see that they released cookie clicker with ray tracing...? It's called bitcoin!"

I don't know if someone else has made that joke before though, I think a lot of people have compared crypto with cookieclicker before but I'm not sure about the ray tracing thing
