@“esper”#p99034 What’s your favorite tribute to a video game in another video game?

The birds from Gun Frontier showing up in Battle Garegga is tops for me. [upl-image-preview url=https://i.imgur.com/eRf9wwy.jpeg]

The English localization of Battle Garegga is “Battle Greg”

@“fivedollardare”#p99299 SHOOT I totally forgot about this. I didn't play it for very long but I remember that being a point that came up in reviews and things. Definitely a neat idea!

@TracyDMcGrath it's tough for me to tell that those are the same birds! is it clearer in motion?

@“exodus”#p99399 the sprites themselves aren't the same but the way they disperse is and their function as harmless score fodder is. Gun Frontier was a big influence on Garegga and this the most direct visual nod to it.

@“TracyDMcGrath”#p99402 ah, I see! the concept of the birds rather than the birds themselves. Now that I own both of these games and my Game Zone is almost set back up, I'll check it out for myself!

Anyone else having a hard time distinguishing where in the first image @“TracyDMcGrath”#p99387 the birds are?

@“captain”#p99426 yeah they're pretty muddy, 6:30 here has them in motion

And 2:55 here in Battle Garegga

I sort of figured it was my slight color-blindness but I do see it now, thanks

@“esper”#p99034 Design a new game for the Steel Battalion controller. (25:50)

@“hellomrkearns”#p99474 last year In 2021 my previous phone that I had had for 6 years broke and I had no phone for a period of 3-ish weeks so my Insert Credit Show listening device for that time was my 3ds.

(also tried the Vita but I found loading mp3's into the 3ds to be way easier)

@“Gaagaagiins”#p99325 @“gsk”#p99500 I still think of him as Dude Huge. It is just wonderfully stupid.

is the LG CX an incredible software experience or something? I have blocked every TV I‘ve ever owned from network access at a router level, and was pretty shocked to hear tim and frank don’t do that. tim has an apple TV which i know has to be better than whatever comes packaged with it.

is the LG software suite confirmed to not be packaged with all the spyware and garbage that modern TVs always come with these days, or something?

@“esper”#p99535 is the LG CX an incredible software experience or something?

I have one but wouldn't be able to tell you, I use my TV as my main computer monitor so I'm not reliant on its software at all. I had a Samsung before this and I found that the software experience was a bit more obtrusive there than with my LG CX, but, like, I'm more or less used to ignoring it.

As well, damned if I could name a single one, but there have been software/firmware updates here and there that actually added features.

``` Gaagaagiins explains why they can't answer your question.``` Does that answer your question
@“esper”#p99535 yeah I block my TVs too (and never set them up to connect to the internet) - where‘d you hear that they don’t? maybe I wasn't paying attention, the cooking going on in the background this episode made it hard for me to concentrate
just learned I should block my TV when I get a new one.
I have to say, I was sort of in disbelief during the game length discussion…maybe I'm the weird one here, but 12 hours sounds like a “normal video game” length, at least when it comes to a narrative-focused medium to high budget single player game. My immediate thought was more in the 2-5 hour range–a “short” game, for me, has less to do with the absolute length, and more with the idea of a lean, focused experience that explores one highly specific storyline and/or gameplay mechanism without any padding…something like INSIDE, for example. I guess the wording of the question specifically asks for the minimum length…I would probably place it closer to the 7-8 hour range before I start considering a game just a solid, brisk “normal length” game.
Side thought: Seeing as _A Short Hike_ has become the canonical reflexive answer whenever anyone asks for a "short game" recommendation, I am quite surprised that more games don't have "Short" in the title now!
