One thing I like about this show is the four of you never have the fear of missing out on a video game. I feel like I have to play everything, all the time, or at least be aware of it. You guys are just like… yeah, video games… whatever. I find it endearing and a stress relief.

The panel were circling around a third broad category of speedruns, beyond Any% and 100%, which is the Low% run.
I'll let the Youtube channel named after the category describe it, and demonstrate how in some cases it can be fascinating if for no other reason how, depending on the game, it can either be identical to the Any%, or end up being drastically different from both the Any% category and the 100% category in philosophy and execution.

on new speedrun categories:
something about speedrunning is that it‘s a goal (to get to the game’s “end” as fast as possible), that when applied to most games, brings out many of their glitches and peculiarities; it changes the game from being played on the more abstract, representational level, to being played on a more “literal,” game-code level, where glitches are as valid mechanics as anything “intended.”
but other goals can bring about this as well. super mario 64's a-button challenge has created some of the most fascinating puzzles of any game, but puzzles requiring the usage of mechanics nobody really designed.
my question, then, besides speedrun categories, is what other goals can showcase and leverage these unintended features of games?
I haven't even gotten the chance to listen to the episode yet, but I just want to say when I woke up this morning, saw the notification for the episode, and read the title, I got to start off my day with a great laugh, and I appreciate it.

I‘m once again playing the first Dragon Quest Monsters game, though this is the first time I’ve played the original English translation in nearly ten years. I'm surprised to see monsters referred to quite often as “pals”:

I played RDR2 and never knew about the lost girl thing! But interesting to think about it in the context of the GTA: San Andreas Hot Coffee “minigame” (not particularly SFW, naturally). Data mining got them in trouble in 2004 - maybe in 2018, they decided to leave something for the miners to obsess over?

Kojima used the term “multi-process story” during the development of Policenauts. In the game's own words (courtesy of the glossary translated by JunkerHQ):

I do think this describes Policenauts perfectly. I'm only in the second act but it clearly has a specific path on where the story is going and I'm assuming that there can only be one natural ending to it. I know I have probably missed additional conversations and interaction points with certain characters but I can live with that.
The odd interactions with female characters I can do without though. Without spoiling it, the bit with the massquito was just weird!
