ah yes…very strong memory of a ranking episode from way back in the day where kris graft had to cast a pivotal vote and everyone waited with baited breath except for tim who repeatedly screamed “kris graft!!” “kris graft!!” with his mic clipping. the mood was absolutely electric folks. one of the only funny times anyone has screamed on a podcast i think
@exodus @Tradegood does Frey really have to give away her cat??
@“connrrr”#p152781 She didn‘t have to, but during her dark night of the soul she chose to give it to the only positive authority figure she has in her life in an act of humble desperation. It was not like a ’surrender to the authority‘ moment… it was moreso that she was homeless and trying to do the responsible thing. Also it was necessary for the isekai to work and you weren’t wondering ‘I hope Homer is ok’ the whole time. It's for the best she did. Athia is no place for a stray cat.
havent played the game, but I think an easy fix would have been for the cat to travel to the fairy realm or whatever with her, only now it's as big as a horse and can talk and she can ride it around. Better than a cuff I think
@“Tradegood”#p152787 PHEW ok, rehoming your cat with someone you know and trust and may well see again if she's able to travel back to NYC is much better than leaving things up to fate.
@"yeso"#p152790 cat mount!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, I know they put it there as kind of a joke, but I want to play FFXVI so bad. Dragon‘s Dogma has pretty much made itself my favorite video gmae of all time at this point, so if Final Fantasy wants to be that, I’m sure not complaining. I only have the third play station though, not the fifth one.
@“Spark”#p152794 I love Dragon's Dogma too but have to say FFXVI isnt much like it at all
@“connrrr”#p152791 it is someone she barely knew but yeah, her prospects were not good so she was trying to do the right thing. I‘m my opinion it wasn’t the best plan vs a shelter.
“Forspoken dialogue is markedly worse than Uncharted dialogue and it wouldn't work any better if it were Nathan Drake speaking it”
Aw! you're so sweet!! :)
"There is no difference in dialogue quality between _Kingdom Hearts II_ and _Kingdom Hearts III_"
HELLO??? HUMAN RESOURCES?!?!
@“Tradegood”#p152787 Let's not forget you can befriend magic kitties (each of them with a backstory even), which was a good enough excuse for me to fill up the map.
@“exodus”#p152801 I'm all tore up about this game now
@“bnn”#p152805 I think I will check out Forspoken from the library as well!
@“tapevulture”#p152778 I just listened to this a couple days ago. Solid hit. I love the Kris Graft episodes.
@“Jonks”#p152705 That’s my takeaway about their design philosophy too. Bethesda games do feel like their design is rooted in the 90s PC game of just messing about with the various systems. They are 90s games as opposed to being what you remember of 90s games. They do so much but all of it is relatively simple so I think that’s where the lack of depth critique comes from.
I will say that this time around, more focus has been directed toward dialogue and character interaction as opposed to being mostly wandering and collecting like what was seen in Skyrim and beyond. There’s a swath of NPCs who you can have paragraphs-long conversations with and I find it interesting. It’s nice to just exist in a galaxy that isn’t on the brink of destruction. A friend and I likened the faction quests to seasons of a TV show or perhaps a mini-series set in a particular universe. That’s what Starfield feels like to me and perhaps that hyper-non-linearity is what’s offputting to a lot of folks.
Also, I gotta give it to Bethesda for bringing back the best Oblivion character.

@“yeso”#p152797 All I need is one attack animation to cancel into a combo. Just one. That's all it takes. Tales of Vesparia - basically Dragons Dogma.
As far as Forspoken goes, I haven't gotten to the part where they talk about it. I did get that game, I do think it's awesome that we get to play it, and I love that it is in the top ten. I don't think I have every witnessed a game with as much corporate dysfunction, and it's gorgeous, and also simultaneously sick that the solution to a situation like this is to just fire everyone. It's a game that is too simply too challenging for me to keep on my hard drive. I'll play it one day.
I don't know if we need more corporate failures like Forspoken, or more corporate failures like Starfield. I'm pretty torn.
@“Tradegood”#p152767 I‘m curious now! But blink twice if I’m on to something.
I love Kris Graft on the show. Such a funny guy and he always seems to bring out the funniest in all the other hosts as well.
re the question of “will you like Void Stranger if you don't like sokoban-style puzzles games”: I think it will be approximately a coin toss if you don‘t especially like sokoban or sokoban-like games, but I think you’d have to be a certified sokoban hater to reject it outright just ‘cause it’s got puzzles with blocks. I don't especially like sokoban games and even sometimes wrankle at the idea of doing block puzzles (it depends on the game and their mechanics), but I liked Void Stranger strictly as a puzzle game quite a lot.
Also with regards to whether or not What It's Doin' is worthwhile or not, I don't even know if I think What It Was Doin' was exceptional or essential, but man, I think it's pretty interesting in general not _what_ they did, but that that's how they _chose to do it._ So I guess in some ways it really does elevate what would otherwise just be a real noodle scratcher of a puzzle game into something memorable and meaty in its narrative experiment, whether it ultimately appeals to you or not. It says something that it's probably not a straightforwardly better _puzzle_ game than _Baba Is You_ (which isn't to say it isn't a great puzzle game, it is), but I sure didn't have _Baba Is You_ sink its hooks into me in the same way _Void Stranger_ did. That's the magic of narrative baby
I was really hoping tim would skip totk and it wouldn‘t even be on the list and Starfield would (And I hate Starfield!) But at least it wasn’t number 1.
thank you esper quinn for your hard work
