After being assigned the task of playing Knuckles’ Chaotix with their romantic partners, our panel returns with questions and opinions. Hosted by Alex Jaffe, with Frank Cifaldi, Ash Parrish, and Brandon Sheffield. Edited by Esper Quinn, original music by Kurt Feldman.
I’d like to think that my use of boy howdy on here embedded that saying into Ash’s head and led to her saying on this episode. I’m almost certainly wrong but I like to dream.
Also, my wife and I have been playing single player games together simultaneously for over a decade. Now I want to put our relationship to the test by firing up the MiSTer and saying what everyone wants to hear most from their partner: “Honey, I’m romantically interested in playing Knuckles: Chaotix with you.”
The panel identifying Shadow as white but maybe a white pseudo minority is extremely spot on. I’ll just add that he’s white but an oppressed kinda white. So Irish maybe.
Very fun show that one! I hope that the panel playing a game and the discussing it will be done again and very soon. Dem credits need to be inserted!!!
Yeah Sonic is like the rapper Snow when it was found out he has no Jamaican roots and said that he comes from a Jamaican part of Canada. True oppression
I ruined a relationship of a newly married couple by giving them Kuri Kuri Mix (Cookies and Cream). Playing the game prompted a gigantic yelling match, and they were divorced within a year.
I still remember my friend having a meltdown because of a clown on a ball in that game. But we are still friends! I do love Cookies and Cream! Best From soft game.
Speaking of sending snail mail to your representatives, my local library just started a thing called Typewriter Tuesdays where, for like an hour once a week, you can come in, write something on their typewriter, and they will mail it to your representative(s).
No idea if there’s a larger trend here, but what a cool idea. Libraries once again our greatest institution.
Co-op with my wife was tumultuous to start but it’s gotten better. I admit I was the problem. I remember trying to do Super Smash Bros Brawl’s Subspace Emissary co-op with her and I was such a rush-ahead controlling idiot she got frustrated and quit after one session.
After that we did do Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, which she enjoyed since I could do my thing and she could mess around a bit more without anything slowing down.
Once I got out of my “must be the alpha gamer” phase of my life, I am much better at co-op as I’ve just come to realize that it’s OK to slow it down. I don’t need to tell my partner answers or what exactly to do unless I’m asked. Having fun is what matters more than accomplishing something that maybe one other person in my life would care about.
Anyway, co-op games are fun. Just realize if you’re playing with someone else, it’s OK to play at their level if they’re not as good as you. No one will shame you for it, but your co-op partner will shame you for being an ass.
EDIT: Wanted to add a few co-op games we’ve enjoyed that are really not frustrating for either of us: Snipperclips and Pikuniku. Not a lot of people seem to know of the latter, so I implore you to play Pikuniku, either single and/or co-op. It’s great.
