@“treefroggy”#p149103 Only if I get to play the saxophone!
i guess ng+ in LAD8 is locked behind the digital deluxe edition. i’m thinking of cancelling my physical pre-order to buy the deluxe edition now. i don’t even think i’d play the ng+ but for some reason it bothers me not having access to it. plus i want sega to know that i support and endorse this level of monetization.
Kiryu is a millenial and Ichiban is a zoomer. sort of a little theory I have going
@“yeso”#p149146 Wasn't Kiryu an adult in the 80s?
@“Video Game King”#p149147 yeah he was born in the 60s but they‘ve been fudging his age over time. he’s almost certainly gen X!
sorry I'm not very familiar with japanese culture dont know how it works over there
found out the protagonist in the new PoP is named Sargon? weird choice (…or is it?) given the popularity of a certain far-right youtuber.
>!i know sargon of akkad was also a real person, but unless the character is literally that guy there's a lot of other, less-eyebrow raising names they could've gone with!<
@“Coffinwarehouses”#p149166 Ubisoft is usually super thorough with cultural research surrounding their games (that is the sole positive legacy of the terrible people that got sacked a few years ago). Sargon is a legit persian name. The game voices can be switched to farsi. The director and producer are named Mounir Radi and Abdelhak Elguess. The dev team probably doesn’t even know who that youtuber is (French people have their own racist dickwads on Youtube, they don’t need the American ones). The character’s name fuzzes out the SEO of the other guy. I wouldn’t look too much into it.

I assume this holds for games produced after *The Sands of Time*. For a while now, that game has lodged itself in my mind as "Middle Eastern (specifically Persian) representation done wrong."
@“Video Game King”#p149176 This started precisely due to research into the Prince of Persia spin-off / sequel that eventually became the first Assassin’s Creed. Not that proper research would necessarily be used to portray other cultures positively or properly: see Bolivia vs. Ghost Recon.
@“◉◉maru”#p149171 shitty YouTuber Sargon of Akkad is from the UK, but your point is well taken and I will (attempt to) refrain from assuming the worst of Ubisoft's French developers.
@“yeso”#p149146 In the spirit of curiosity, does Japan also designate generations like we do?
[This source](https://www.nippon.com/en/japan-data/h00535/japanese-generations-boom-bubble-and-ice-age.html) suggests Kiryu would be Bubble Generation or New Breed Generation, which fits with Gen X and the vibe I get from Kiryu. Then Ichiban is technically Employment Ice Age or Millennial Generation, but his arrested development definitely makes him seem Zoomer compared to, say, Yagami. But I don't know how credible that is.
@“tomjonjon”#p149492 hmmmmmmm
Related to our earlier discussion a few posts above, an interesting article about Prince of Persia’s Farsi localization.
