Fighting game is something so great

Seeing the Yakuza team in charge of the new VF gets me so excited. Having a Yakuza-like walk around bit that’s also Virtua Fighter sounds like the best video game ever made.

Played some of the beta last night with friends! Seems that online play is still a little buggy. We had issues with some friends not being able to join.

Other than that, game is so fun. I was never a big VF guy but I remember playing 4 a lot with my dad on PS2. No clue who I played back then but now I’m Gou all the way.

Yes!!! Full agreement there! I have always been VF-adjacent and respected the games from afar, and when I sat down to kinda learn how to actually play it about a year ago, I fell in love with that guy!

I kind of wish the game was a bit more stylized and abstracted than what was shown. The rings and stages being a bit contrived always kind of worked for me, but the new graphics sure do look hot to death!

Something about a judo assassin really just made me gravitate to him. Also I can’t lie I love a good edgy dude.

I am so excited Virtua Fighter is back!

I am a Sarah main, so looks like I’ll be playing Stella. Her daughter or something. :woman_shrugging:

I didn’t expect this weekend to be all about monkey based martial arts, but here I am up to my old tricks.

Tremendous! Definitely playing this weekend.

(Steams so dangerous. Opened it up for this, next thing you know I see 90% off Bandai Namco games and now Ace Combat 7 is also in my cart.)

The Sailor Moon S community made a video for the game’s 30th anniversary yesterday! I started learning it last year, and it’s a surprisingly smart game for an SFC anime tie-in fighter.

It’s funny that people started playing this one in earnest like 6 years ago because they realized Arc system works made it. Instant retroactive street cred and all.

A guy I know from another forum, who is very tall and dutch, has made what he describes as a comprehensive 17 minute broken combo video for SNK vs Capcom MOTM’s 25th anniversary on the neo geo pocket color.

It does showcase the brokenness but also the depth of the system. The smoothness of the animations for this console continue to impress me!

The NGP/NGPC fighting games are still some of my favorite ever, and some of the only ones I’ve ever felt even remotely competent at. The two-button controls are so much easier for me to wrap my head around, but I think the real secret weapon was the perfect control stick–one of the reasons these games can only be fully appreciated on original hardware imo.

yeah, I think the NGP really solidified my interest in fighting games, they really got it right with that stick and control scheme.

On NGPC talk, I was playing KoF R1 last night actually. It does feel really cool that they shrunk down KoF 97 down so succinctly. I was pulling off Shermie slides left and right (mostly right because I crumble on the P2 side of the screen). I have a modded NGPC with a backlit screen and it looks sweet. They are the perfect babies first fighting game in the best way possible

Played some Street Fighter EX2 this morning and it seems to be pretty awesome. I’m a filthy casual Street Fighter fan and player, so I’ve never heard much about or experienced much of the EX games.

Game looks rad, has great music, and gameplay feels tight. Seems like the EX series isn’t talked about much, so I assumed the games would suck, but I’m finding that not to be the case at all.

The EX games have such killer soundtracks! Personally really love the Guile theme from EX3.

Really hope at some point we get a good collection of these on modern consoles. I don’t think any of the EX games are on Fightcade either which is a downer.

If you like EX, Rival Schools is another Akira game and is also fast and fun. I opened it up and went through the combo and tutorials a bit a month or two ago and I wish I had actually picked it up back in the day. I would have had a blast with it! It’s simultaneously easy for newcomers to mash, block, and punish, and quite deep for people who want to spend time with it. You can also Truancy Cancel which is pretty amazing.

Thanks! I’ll check it out.

I’ve associated early 3D fighters with a certain slowness, and was expecting that from the EX games, so I was pleasantly surprised by the pace most of all.

Wow, this was amazing. Thanks for sharing!

I know Super S isn’t as endearing for the fighting game community, but I’ve never seen a video or read something explaining why. Did the mechanics change that much?
