My controversial opinion on FFXV is that it might be the most fun FF game in decades.

I love that game. I loved driving around with my bros. Loved killing monsters with my bros. Loved ignoring the PLOT with my bros for tens of hours. Then, all of a sudden, you get to Chapter XIII and the game forces you to reckon with what your bros mean and have meant to you. I know they patched it to make it less frustrating, but, man, that was some beautiful game design. Just bold in a way that few games are.

I loved it.

@“Syzygy”#p83063 lol, I played furcadia in the 6th grade, (2004) I had little tolerance for the stylings of RuneScape, but furcadia, while I didn’t figure anything out, seemed really mysterious and cool. I got one of the cool girls in my class to check it out too.

The further I get into Tactics the more I see just how much of that game is baked into XIV from naming conventions to lore to mechanics. I knew Yoshi-P and co were fans of Matsuno of course but I didn’t really understand the depth of how much Tactics was baked into the game until I started playing it.

So, on the morning of the inaugural Splatoon 3 splatfest, I dug out my Early 2008 15" Penryn MacBook Pro, which I use primarily these days as my Win7 Pro machine, and I got FFXI running. I made a Mithra monk character named Nikkol and got as far as giving my coupon to Jack of Spades and then asking the only other human being online (server: Bahamut) if they were real lmao. They ignored me and kept on synthesizing stuff.

My trial period is going to expire tomorrow and I'm not near my machine so that's it for my adventure for now. I think I might be more likely to play this game regularly if I had a comfortable setup for my 14 year old laptop. I'm thinking about it. Could be fun.

Finally got to Kugane and that place is HOT I love our new Kojin friend. Stormblood has been real strong so far.

Curtain Call was incredible, looking forward to this.

Crisis Core remaster also coming out December 13th.

i started playing XIV with @TarpeianRock although sadly his server was full and he cannot join mine for 45 more days :frowning: never played an MMO b4 so still getting used to the mechanics and overwhelming UI. i set up my UI based on tarpeian‘s recommendations tho so think i’ve pared it down as much as i can. playing as a marauder named HUGH JAX. i am doing one of the tutorial quests where you have to talk to the dude once you have a full set of level 5 gear.

does anyone else feel the game is...overtranslated?

i'm playing as a female and despite leaving all the body proportions at default my partner walked by and said my character looked like a "SEX DOLL" ... rude. nevertheless i did move some of the sliders at that point

@“tapevulture”#p84636 you got cyberbody-shamed!!

@“connrrr”#p84637 i didn't say what direction i moved the sliders in

@“tapevulture”#p84636 CANNOT believe Hugh Jax was available. A blessing.

@“TarpeianRock”#p84657 must have chosen the right patron deity…….

We got the better Final Fantasy game instead so I am not mad but very surprised we have no FF16 news at TGS, as per State of Play.

@“chazumaru”#p84672 they did not want to announce new FF16 info at the show where konami is expected to make a bombshell announcement regarding a more successful and beloved RPG franchise [upl-image-preview url=https://i.imgur.com/l05eSuc.png]

@“tapevulture”#p84636 playing as a marauder named HUGH JAX.

Truly the most powerful players of FFXIV, the one which is notable for letting you switch character classes in all but the most unreasonable circumstances, are the ones who have class/job themed character names (also thinking of my buddy who gave the name "Air Roe" to the character they started as an Archer, only to later rename that character or create a new one named "Roe Tacus" (like Spartacus, like, the Gladiator (meaning, yes, a class themed name that wouldn't even be relevant once they hit level 30)))

@“tapevulture”#p84679 Hell yes, can't wait to idly store up Strategy Points throughout the day in order to build my base, then empty out my meagre savings account to pull one of the 108 “SSS-Rank” Stars of Destiny heroes

@“Syzygy”#p84760 I knew I could count on you, Syz.

Nice to hear you're having a good time with Stormblood so far. Stormblood is still one of my favorite expansions and I feel like all people ever do is complain and dunk on it.

I definitely see how it's not as cohesive as other expansions but dang if the zones, music, and duties don't absolutely rip. Running The Pool of Tribute for the first time is still one of my favorite memories playing FFXIV. What a fight!

Also as someone whose family comes from a former British colony, the Stormblood story **_hits way different_**. I had never seen depictions of colonial rule like that in a game and I appreciated it. It's not perfect by any means (nothing is) but what a joy it was to send the Garlean Empire packing.
