Game different.

@“tomjonjon”#p120226 ever since I started using an old 12" MacBook I've become addicted to wicked light laptops so my eyes are definitely on the M2 Airs. They also really remind me of the TiBook in profile more than any of their other current models.

(Ok maybe they all look like TiBooks now.)

GPT is definitely neat and could help if you really wanna play something that just never got ported. I bet its performance will improve in the future too, who knows. I wonder if it works for DX10 games at all, or maybe even older versions?

It would be fun to play games on my MacBook yeah

@“connrrr”#p120264 the shape of the M2 Air is definitely compelling. The dark color option has an iPhone 5 feel.

@“tomjonjon”#p123037 frustratingly though, Oliver really downplays how this is being positioned as a development tool and not Apple's version of Proton.

I also heard an update for it dropped recently that increased performance by like 20%??

It just hit me that Apple is doing everything to get games on their machines short of developing any of their own. They certainly have more than enough capital to acquire even one studio. Amazon, Google, now Netflix have all been taking stabs at gaming.

Has Apple ever developed even one video game? Chess.app traces back to OpenStep, I don't think that counts.

@“shaggylobo”#p127258 someone please show me if this can run under the game porting toolkit lol.

Hmmm maybe I should start saving up for a beefy new mac so I can be more prepared for when my 2015 Macbook dies on me in a year or so. Gaming on Mac finally being possible would be real good. As it stands, the fans turn on when I watch a YouTube video in anything higher than 480p.

@“connierad”#p127294 I hate that. I‘ve got three MacBooks and a 12" PowerBook G4. The one I use most is a 2012 MBP with those awful butterfly keys that are starting to break, the trackpad too. I opt for this kinda dinky 2016 MacBook because everything still works and the OS is newer, but would very much like to upgrade to something beefier. I haven’t purchased a new computer for myself since 2008.

@“connierad”#p127294 Posting this comment has cursed me unfortunately.

@“connierad”#p127427 RIP. I want to say it could have been worse but it might curse you further lol

A little off topic, but the original iMac has a special place in my (computer) heart.

Lies of P received a seemingly very well optimized Apple Silicon-native release day and date with consoles and Windows. This completely flew under my radar.

@“the rocky connrrr picture show”#p135010 if they had even announced the macos port was coming to steam before I bought it for PS5, I totally would have bought this.

In other news, [the verge's review of _Resident Evil VIllage_ for iPhone 15 pro](https://apple.news/ArvI_XDSpQI6ylPcsMyaWBg) mentioned a connection here that I hadn’t considered — apple is flipping its phones over to identical/similar chips to those powering its computers, meaning it’s theoretically much easier to port to both platforms at once. With all these upcoming iOS releases of recent AAA games, I wonder if Apple can actually leverage its huge mobile user base to get a decent showing of AAA on mac. Despite somehow having two apple devices at once for the first time in forever, I’m not a huge apple partisan, but I’d love being able to play stuff on my macbook.

Digital Foundry just did a review of Resident Evil 8's performance on iPhone 15 Pro. Unsurprisingly, it‘s not the best version of the game, but I’m gobsmacked by how well it runs on a stupid pocket brain poison machine. A series of questionable events lead me to acquire this phone and I have the app downloading now (apparently there‘s a free portion of the game). I can report in later if you’re interested.

As someone who's primary gaming machine was an underpowered macbook for most of my peak playing years until the last ~5 years, I never thought I'd live to see the day where major AAA releases were becoming more common, lead by the iOS devices of all things.

Our first family computer was an older Mac that my aunt had gotten us at a discount through the school she worked at. She always brought over sleeves of games that either the school didn‘t want or she’d gotten as promotions. There was one that always unsettled me, but I could remember the name.

I finally found it — _The Secret Island of Dr. Quandry._

Did anyone else play this? It's an adventure game. You get turned into a qewpie/troll doll by a carnival wizard and then have to escape an island. It always freaked me out, so I never got very far.

Not quite… this year it’s Ubisoft. Assassin’s Creed is coming to MacOS and iPad.
