Gifting my little cousins a Wii for xmas. Which games should i include?

Can a wii play N64 games? Because that's the perfect age for Mario 64, Pilotwings, Wave Race, 1080, Pokemon Snap, and Starfox.

Goldeneye too you want to want to be known as the cool/dirtbag uncle

@“Tradegood”#p145099 it can, and Nintendo's internal emulator for the N64 from GCN to Wii was actually great!

It is a great idea to gift a spare wii with homebrew. I think Kirby's Return to Dreamland is a good idea. Its multiplayer is perfect for kids as both players are more equal. Always resulted in less fighting in my family. The Lego games are also a lot of fun and good for multiplayer. I remember the Star Wars one and the Harry Potter one being quite good. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and other Mario sports titles are not the highest quality games but they are really fun to play. I think it would be a good idea to put the Zelda games and Animal Crossing City Folk on there, thought they might be more for later as I remember struggling with them as a kid whose native language was not English.

Let's Tap!

I woke up and had this realization…

Super Monkey Ball!!

I'll throw in two gamecube controllers

Actually kind of along those same lines: Kororinpa! Marble rolling game.

It eventually came out on everything, but World of Goo is a Wii game to me.

If GCN games are going on there: Ribbit King and the Pikmins!!

This might be an age stretch, but Tatsunoko vs Capcom is very silly and only on Wii. It the closest you will get to a Marvel vs Capcom for the kid who likes super heroes. Maybe Batman Brave and the Bold for similar super hero reasons. Dark horse candidates could be Domino Rally, Elebits, and The Munchables. The Munchables being the closest to a Katamari for the Wii.

If you splurge for anything, get the higher quality HDMI adapter https://electron-shepherd.com/products/wii2hdmi

@“robinhoodie”#p145206 oh thanks!

i have a wii2hdmi, i‘ll include since likely their tv doesn’t have AV input

@“marxseny”#p145042 give him brawl, melee and project m. I would mainly focus on gamecube classics and sprinkle some Wii classics on top. 8 is kind of young for no more heroes, but by age 13 and 14 it would be my most highly recommended wii exclusive.

Kirby’s epic yarn

Everyone seems to be focused on Wii stuff but I know a hacked wii plays all gamecube iso natively so again, I would primarily focus on those. They take up one eighth the space of wii games.
Since he loves sonic, sonic adventure 2 battle, sa1dx, sonic gems & mega collection are all necessities, as well as sonic heroes.
Sonic riders also! Just give all the sonic games and games that have sonic in them. Put monkey ball 1/2 and Billy Hatcher on there.

With hacks you also don’t need a gamecube controller to play gamecube games using nintendont. I am double posting to reiterate my strong suggestion to mainly include a boatload of gamecube games.

I‘m just gonna say Excite Truck is a blast even if you’re bad at it and constantly running into stuff and blowing up your truck. I‘d say throw that on there for the kids; they’ll love it.

You can fully remap controls. I don't know what controllers they are working with here but with either console standard, you can make-do. Especially a young kid who is forced to make-do. They will form great memories.

@rearnakedwindow yeahhhhh excite truck was a hit with my friends when I got it.

@“treefroggy”#p145297 I know this, but i figured it can be good learning to use a more traditional controller for when they grow up. Also, it doesn't require battery

(and i have at least two of those 3rd party shitty controllers lol)

@“marxseny”#p145325 :rotating_light::rotating_light:we got a certified Little Brother Controller:rotating_light::rotating_light:

I have hacked wiis “professionally” for over 10 years now. I used to buy them 10 at a time, hack them and resell them. I have different hack packs ready to go for different customers needs.

Here’s what I do when someone’s buying a hacked Wii for their kid:

128gb SD card

Like 20-30 GCN ISO’s

A couple Wii ISO’s (especially smash bros)

Emulator suite - genesis, snes, NES, GBA, GBC, turbografx16

Some virtual console n64 classics and Wii ware .wad titles like cave story

@“treefroggy”#p145340 This was my second wii. First one got stollen lol

But i was there when my friend bought this wii i got from him years latter)

i cfwed it, played a heck till its wheels fell off. The disc drive don‘t work anymore and the sd slot is a lil iffy. I’ll send it with a external hd i think

My suggestions would be Wario Ware, the Wii Play/Sports games, Boom Blox, that first Raving Rabbids and an extra wiimote for when they inevitably fling one across the room.

@"exodus"#p145061 I got so excited when I read Graffiti Kingdom thinking that somehow I had missed that coming out on the Wii. It probably would have been a lot easier to create stuff with the wiimote. Opoona and Endless Ocean are great too, though.

have some soup
