yesss. I was just talking about these with a friend recently, trying to describe how I love how his beats always have a bit of clunk — my friend goes “yea, he’s got metal fingers.” SO GOOD!
This was an early go-to in college. It’s got that first day of summer feel.
And I always loved how she tells him off at the end of this one — this made me always frame VV as the bumbling wannabe. Wish I could find more of her stuff.
Speaking of…
MM…FOOD was released 20 years ago today! God, too many good ones in this
I have fond memories of downloading an acapella of “Vomitspit” and putting my own shitty ass beat under it using a cracked copy of FL Studio.
My friends and I did this all the time in high school lmao. Ultimate ego boost
The “super” sample and the way it’s manipulated on Hoe Cakes is almost too good to believe.
In general, so many of the samples on this record make me laugh, every time. “I’ve lost an arm!” “Good.”
“Hoe Cakes” sample of Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love” is what initially turmed me on to his music. My mom LOVED that song.
Harry Fraud and Boldy James dropped a new tape that’s amazing. Huge fan of both. Been waiting for this all year. Here’s two of my favorite tracks so far. ‘Harvey Grant’ is a great example of Harry’s production style. ‘Fish Grease’ is classic Boldy spitting over a more subdued Harry beat.
hard to not think on how tribe called quest (right after phife dawg died, RIP) dropped their final album - a complete masterpiece - right when trump got elected the first time
so kendrick dropping GNK right now is…exactly what we needed, honestly

My ho bad, I think she got a disorder (She got a disorder)
My ho bad, I told her, “Stand in the corner” (Told her, “Stand in the corner”)
I used to play this song right before job interviews to hype me up. I’m pleased to report a 100% success rate.
But uhh…your mileage may vary.
All time classic right here!
It’s a good morning for some Lupe. (Who somehow I think was missed during the relatively recent discussion of great nerd rappers, and I believe is probably more nerdy than MF Doom.)
Probably my favorite rap track of all time. Def top 5.
After hearing Snoop do his new single at Keighley Awards, I checked out the album and it’s pretty good! Sampling Last Dance With Mary Jane but making it about not being able to smoke blunts anymore cracks me up.
Still not as good an album to me as Bush, but I think that was a one off sound he’s not likely to go for again.
