Hacks, Hardware & Emulation, Oh My

Alright DSi cfw is finished with custom boxart for almost every game. Like with Ps2 for 80% of the games I replaced the box art with the JP version. DS Era US box art was especially bad…

Now I‘m ready to start looking at where DS Lite AV modding is at… How long has it been, a couple years since that first mod came out? Haven’t looked back yet.

I‘m hoping for a comfy shell replacement to make the bottom half of DS Lite into a comfy controller while housing the AV output board, a la GB macro, essentially consolizing the DS Lite halfway. It may be too soon for that to exist, if it does it’s probably an obscure early prototype by someone that hasn't gotten any mainstream attention yet.

This all has reminded me that I need to look into replacing both screens on my DS lite, ugh. I can't remember what that entails or where to get quality parts. If anyone has advice for this repair, please hit me with your best shot.

@“connrrr”#p95780 I may have an extra top screen for ds lite for you by the time I‘m done. they’re annoying to work with imho.

@“treefroggy”#p95967 the ribbon cables!! It‘s been a while since I was inside the thing, but I remember the bottom one maybe being integrated into the mobo. And because of the way the console works, if there’s a problem with one component then the whole thing just stops working.

yes the ribbon cable for the bottom screen is very short and easy to work with.
GB SP's screen hinge is much easier to work with.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Obviously for gameboy macro users, they're doing *something* so that it just works. More info when I get around to the two chopped DS lites on my desk right now.

It wasn’t even a toggle in the version of Priiloader I got, guess they removed it

Lol I love priiloader. Reminds me of the days where I was hackin them fellas 5-10 times a week

Low on solar energy Today due to playing armored core on my crt all night and now it’s fully clouded in layers overhead so only getting enough trickle to sustain the use of my pc and rice cooker, basically everything except the CRT which would push me into :warning: caution zone.

Point is, I’m gonna use my ps2 to transfer my armored core ps1 save from the memory card to usb flash drive and then to my pc.

I have never used a ps1 emulator on my pc. That’s the honest to gosh truth! Seeing plenty of people playing AC1 with 4k rendering. Gonna do that!

Being a Solarpunk retro gamer is a lot like playing armored core, lol. Managing all these systems, mistakes are expensive, the environment is harsh, and I’m in the core at all times.

Painting a picture: anyone here ever seen that old toonami show Megas XLR? Just like that, only it’s a Ford econoline with solar panels.

edit: got it running on duckstation, feeling cyber

Someone has got a Wii remote working as a light gun on a Dreamcast. They also have it working with PS2 Time Crisis 2 so my hope is that this gets less ‘lots of DIY stuff and a laptop’ and more ‘thing I can buy from Indiegogo that just works’ for both consoles.

what're some horizontally-oriented arcade games you'd like to see in widescreen?

Had a crazy evening out with one of my customers. I hacked their DSi in a resturaunt while getting tipsy from an especially strong margarita and as I am dumping their Pokémon cartridge they are mouthing off at a woman in the restaurant and causing a scene. I had to leave. Meanwhile the DS is going through a process that if interrupted could brick the console. [upl-image-preview url=https://i.imgur.com/8yhoX6h.jpeg]

climax for the aforementioned stoner-comedy/my treefroggy fanfiction @"saddleblasters"#p98900: The fight with treefroggy's customer escalates into total war, the restaurant is on fire, at the end treefroggy is sitting alone in the rubble, the dead bodies of all the friends he's made in the course of the movie scattered around him. He sees the DSi beneath a broken chair and picks it up, expecting it to have been bricked in the chaos. Instead he is delightfully surprised to see it still works and the hack was a success. He walks off into the sunrise, DSi in hand, on to new adventures.

A first: they also bought a copy of scarlet and immediately handed it to me to rip the ROM[upl-image-preview url=https://i.imgur.com/55zbgey.jpeg]

@“treefroggy”#p99028 I am screaming on the inside

it was a slow week at work this week, so I watched a bunch of vids on how to hack a Vita. I‘ve been meaning to do mine for a while; it’s already on Henkaku 3.65 Enso, but the thing does not work as it gives me errors when I try to access the PSN store or play games that I own actual carts for… it‘s been like that for years and I’ve just let it collect dust for so long.

anyways, the good news is I was able to overcome the errors!!!!

bad news is... I cannot get SD2VITA working at all. Followed all the tutorials perfectly, and keep getting errors. I've tried all day and I'm frustrated now... and seriously considering paying a Craigslist modder to do it for me haha.

Any VITA experts that can save me a potential $100 from hiring the services of a modder? FWIW I've already spent $20+ on a new MicroSD card today since I believe Samsung cards don't work with SD2Vita, and I think I'm about to spend another $10+ on a new SD2Vita since I think I may have physically damaged it trying to replace the SD card lol.

@“p3ters”#p99794 Funny I just upgraded to SD2Vita last week and it breathed new life into the system. I followed this guide.

It was pretty easy on my 3.60 system with Henkaku and Enso. Be sure to follow the guide, but here's a quick overview:

  • 0. Plug in your sd2vita
  • 1. Install the VitaDeploy package (download the .vpk, copy it to ux0, and install it in VitaShell)
  • 2. Format the sd2vita card using VitaDeploy
  • 3. Install YAMT using VitaDeploy
  • 4. Enable YAMT and set ux0 to your original storage and uma0 to your sd2vita card
  • 5. Copy all files and folders from your original install's ux0 partition to the uma0 partition (eg the sd2vita card) using VitaShell
  • 6. In YAMT switch your ux0 partition to the sd2vita card and uma0 to your original install
  • 7. Once your done you may need to uninstall and reinstall some of your non-game hack apps if they don't launch. Just delete the bubble from the main screen and reinstall the .vpk using VitaShell. VitaDeploy has a VitaShell app built in if you can't get your standalone VitaShell to launch and need to reinstall it (this happened to me). VitaDeploy can also download the newest version of VitaShell to install.
  • I hacked a vita in 2017 and it was a very time consuming experience. Sd2vita was especially stubborn. I started over completely from the beginning at one point. Don’t give up, start over if you have to. I used skullators’ tutorials on yt and they were great. Unfortunately Nintendo destroyed skullators YouTube success.

    Good luck

I really need to update my 3ds.

I’ve got a couple really good bomb parts I need to pick up from my PO Box that will be exciting to share here
