Yeah same thing happened to me as well! I’m pretty close to finishing that section, but haven’t had a chance to play this weekend, so a delay on part four.
One thing I will note and expand on, that section feels more like the tutorial than the tutorial. I learned more playing there than when I started - specifically how the game actually works, not what the buttons do.
Still really enjoying it and looking forward to the next section!
What did you think I meant when I said “Geralt is Geralt”? It’s the personality of the character I find repulsive, so if it’s just a model swap then I don’t care.
kidding aside I’m a little baffled by this. How is he repulsive? Plus, you have about the same range in terms of narrative and dialogue choices you would in like your average bioware game, so there’s no solid Geralt anyway…
I’m not prepared to go into detail about why I found Geralt (in the short stories, I don’t know the games except for a few clips and that people like it) repulsive beyond the obvious: gruff, masculine, ‘jaded’, tough, sexual gorilla. Middle aged. The only thing that makes him tolerable in the stories is that Dandelion is always there to remind you he’s shit.
The few bits I’ve seen of the game, he seemed like that same Geralt.
Certainly possible! I really dislike a certain type of man and a certain type of video game protagonist and could be projecting that onto Geralt a little bit in a way that isn’t fair. If it’s true that they give you a wide enough array of choices that you can make him less of That Guy, I would like that. Still not sure I want to inhabit the man.
I haven’t read the stories myself, and it may be too late if you’re like me and those will inevitably inform how the game character feels to you, but the game gives you enough control over his actions (and of course doens’t show much of any internal monologue) that there’s quite a bit of room for different expressions of the character. My Geralt was definitely masculine (sort of unavoidable with the voice and character design) but was more stoic than jaded and a pretty sensitive guy. It could work for you should you ever be interested.
I’m curious to see what this mod does with the voice acting
25 hours later I’m mostly in the same boat. I’ve fallen off at pretty much the same point I did when playing P3 FES more than a decade ago… in other words rest comfortably knowing this is the game’s problem!
you can separately download one of a few “AI” pitch adjusted vo tracks, or if you’d rather not (my choice) you become like a KOTOR style mute protagonist. Which for my money helps separate the character further from standard Geralt
I’ve been having a great time with Paradise Killer. I’ve been away from it these past couple of days but I’m excited to have it back as my comfort game. There’s some things going on that seem quite strange to me (for example everyone just being a flat image in a 3D world) but it just adds to the vibe.
I like that there is 0 friction in just moving around the map and I’m slowly learning where everything is, feels like a huge liminal space (though the music kinda hides that fact a bit). Overall very intriguing experience, feeling good about this one.
Yeah personally what I think defines Geralt in W3 is the amount of empathy and vulnerability they allow you to imbue into him. Very different than the usual gruff game dudes in many places, though not all.
